This PTFE ring is one of the parts that prevent exactly that: a smooth, waxy plastic ring that sits between the rotating and the stationary parts of the grinding chamber.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePTFE is ideal for this because it creates hardly any friction and does not absorb coffee oil. Even so, it wears down over time – 82 millimetres of diameter running along with every grind leave their mark. And a ring with play lets powder through long before it is actually broken.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eWhen it is due\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCoffee dust in places on the grinder where there was none before.
