It catches rinse water, residual pressure and coffee grounds, which puts it in the wettest area of the whole machine – no other sheet-metal part ages so visibly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eWhen it is time to replace it\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bottom has turned grey with limescale, and even descaler no longer gets it evenly clean. Rust or dark discolouration appears along an edge. A corner is dented and the grate has sat crooked ever since.
