Inside it the largest burr Comandante builds, and a cranking feel that carries. The Velvet Steel is a very limited version of the C60 Baracuda with a brushed steel finish.
As a Comandante partner we carry the grinder made in Germany. No one needs 60 millimetres of burr – you want it. That decision is legitimate, and that is exactly how we describe it.
The Baracuda conical burr of high-alloy, nitrogen-rich martensitic stainless steel pulls the beans through two to three times faster than other hand grinders – with noticeably lighter cranking and even particle distribution.
Adjustment runs via a brass dial with an ultra-fine thread: 41.6 micrometres of burr travel per click, around 21 micrometres of change in the target particle size. The stepped click engages cleanly and makes recipes repeatable.
Body and axle stabilisation are milled from a single stainless steel block – without micro-vibrations, for maximum consistency. At around one kilogram the grinder stands firm and does not wander while grinding.
The long XL handle with a Big Joe knob of European oak sits comfortably in the hand; the brass dial keeps the grinder aluminium-free.
The grind range reaches from coarse for filter and immersion to superfine for espresso and cezve/ibrik – the steel is flavour-neutral, the geometry designed for world-class particle distribution. The scope of delivery includes two BPA-free Tritan polymer containers for the grounds, one transparent and one pink, each holding around 40 grams.

60 mm Baracuda conical burr of nitrogen-rich martensitic stainless steel with two to three times the throughput, GX50 Gold Clix with brass dial and 41.6 micrometres of burr travel per click (around 21 micrometres of particle change), unibody milled from a single stainless steel block weighing around one kilogram, XL handle with Big Joe knob of European oak, grind range from coarse filter to superfine espresso and ibrik, two BPA-free Tritan containers holding around 40 grams each, plus a brushed, aluminium-free Velvet Steel finish in a very limited edition.
For anyone who grinds by hand and wants pace, smooth running and fine gradation – and who appreciates an object that makes a statement on the counter. With espresso there is no "right" or "wrong": grind size, dose and ratio are the adjustment screws with which you hit your taste; 1:2, that is about 18 g to around 36 g, is a good starting point. If you prefer it more compact and lighter, take a look at the C40 from our Comandante collection.
For care and tuning you will find containers, knobs and other accessories in our Comandante collection. For brewing, a hand filter from the Hario collection, the Chemex or the Aeropress all fit. A scale rounds off the workflow – affordable from the Normcore range or with an app and flow-rate display from the Acaia collection. Plus fresh beans from our coffee bean selection.
The weight, the smooth running and the click of the GX50 adjustment reveal themselves best in the hand. Drop by, we will show you the Baracuda in action – bringing your own beans is welcome.

With this much burr, a dense, chocolatey-nutty profile is a particular joy – take Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight, 1:2 as a starting point for espresso. If you like maximum body without acidity, try Very Nutty. You will find all beans in our coffee bean selection. That is our recommendation, one of many.
The C60 has a 60 mm burr instead of around 39 mm, grinds two to three times faster and runs particularly quietly with its heavy unibody steel body. Adjustment is via the fine GX50 Gold Clix with a brass wheel. The C40 is the more compact, lighter hand grinder.
