Coffee Coaching Club – our story since 2021

Coffee has always been our drink for waking up, for feeling good, for enjoying time together and for experimenting. In 2021 we had the chance to move into a house down in Bern's Matte quarter, at Gerberngasse 44. It became our happy place, and it's where Coffee Coaching Club began.

Today Coffee Coaching Club is a coffee roastery with an online shop for espresso machines, coffee grinders and barista accessories, plus a café and showroom in two places: Bern and Zurich Oerlikon. We roast in Zurich. Most orders are placed online, and our two shops are the reason you can do that with complete peace of mind.

To inspire and be inspired

That has been our motto from day one. We wanted to create a place where people meet, talk, swap ideas and enjoy things together. Here, the modern meets history, creativity meets science, and clean lines meet colourful cheerfulness. We are uncompromising about two things: it has to taste good, and you should feel at home with us.

Adventurous, brave, a little naive and rather creative: that's how we started. A lot of that is still true today.

Two people, two disciplines, one cup

Behind the club are Anke Wolf and Yalcin Akpinar. Their path led from Hamburg via Neuchâtel to Bern, and it brings together two disciplines that seem to have little in common at first glance, yet meet in a cup of coffee.

Anke, the host. Anke is the founder and owner. She comes from hotels and hospitality and spent more than ten years supporting adults in learning processes, as a lecturer, job coach and trainer. The “Coaching” in our name comes from her. At the club she looks after the team, the cosy atmosphere in the showrooms and the processes behind it all. And whenever literature, art, music and indulgence come together here, it's usually Anke who has brought the threads together.

Yalcin, the coffee intellectual. Yalcin is co-founder and responsible for equipment and sensory science. He is a graduate food chemist (Diplom) from the University of Hamburg, with more than 15 years in the international flavour industry. Today that knowledge goes into our roast profiles, our choice of beans and the machines and grinders we carry. His focus is always the same: coffee should speak to all the senses.

The team

The club is made by the people who work in it every day: Nadine, Delina, Lucia, Christina, Anke and Yalcin. Whether you're drinking an espresso with us, placing an order or asking a question, you'll be dealing with one of them.

What became of the house in the Matte

Our roastery in Zurich Oerlikon

We roast our own coffee at Hagenholzstrasse 50b in Zurich Oerlikon. That's where our production is, and on the same site you'll find our café and the larger of our two showrooms. More about our Zurich Oerlikon location

Café and showroom in Bern

We are still in the house in the Matte. At Gerberngasse 44, the café and showroom share one room of 175 square metres. The machines there aren't on display, they're at work: all day long they make the coffee for our guests. The coffee comes from our roastery in Zurich several times a week. The online shop

Most of what we sell, we sell online. In the shop you'll find espresso machines, coffee grinders, barista accessories and our roasts, from brands including La Marzocco, Rocket Espresso, ECM, Profitec, Bezzera, Mahlkönig and Eureka. We are the exclusive Swiss importer for Varia, Apax Labs, Weber Workshops, Normcore, Subminimal, Loveramics and Flair Espresso.

Private barista courses

The “Coaching” in our name lives on in our courses. At the moment we teach barista courses privately only: just for you, for two, or for you and your team, in German or English, and tailored to the equipment you'll be using afterwards. What matters to us

Coffee as a me-moment. A beautiful espresso machine is luxury in the best sense: you want it for the moment of the day that belongs only to you. That moment is what we do all this for.

Advice, not a sales pitch. We tell you who a machine is right for. And if the less expensive option suits you better, we'll tell you that too.

No espresso police. Our recommendations come from roasting, sensory science and plenty of practice. Even so, this is our perspective on flavour and extraction, one of many. In the end, what counts is that you enjoy your coffee.

Of course, for an espresso or to see the machines in real life. Bern, Gerberngasse 44: Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm. Zurich Oerlikon, Hagenholzstrasse 50b: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm. You can also order everything online.
