Thermoblock espresso machines

Buy Thermoblock Espresso Machines Switzerland – fast heat-up time, compact design

Instead of a water reservoir with a heating coil (classic boiler), a thermoblock machine has a compact aluminum or stainless steel block with cast-in water lines and heating elements. The water flows through this block during brewing and is brought to brewing or steaming temperature in seconds on its way. There is no pre-heated water supply – the water is heated exactly when you need it.

The advantages: extremely short heat-up time of the machine itself (often 2–3 minutes instead of 20+ minutes), no continuous standby consumption of a pre-heated boiler, compact design. The trade-offs: less steam reserve for longer frothing sessions, different temperature characteristics during brewing (can fluctuate minimally more). Coffee Coaching Club carries four active thermoblock models: two from Quick Mill (Senago/Italy) and two from Ascaso (Barcelona/Spain).

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly is a thermoblock ready for use?

About 2–3 minutes from cold to ready. Classic boiler machines need 15–25 minutes. The difference is clearly noticeable in everyday life – especially in the morning.

Is the temperature stable enough for specialty espresso?

For modern thermoblock machines with PID control: yes, stable enough for most specialty applications. For very narrow temperature profiles (light filter roasts under espresso pressure), classic dual boilers are still the more precise choice, but the difference is often overestimated.

Is there enough steam for several cappuccinos?

For Ascaso BABY T ONE and PLUS with dual thermoblock, yes – simultaneous brewing and steaming circuits. For single thermoblock machines (Quick Mill POP), the steaming sequence is minimally slower than with a large boiler, but sufficient for 1–2 cappuccinos in a row. For 3+ cappuccinos in a row, an HX or dual boiler is more comfortable.

What is the power consumption?

Very low in standby (no pre-heated boiler). Briefly 1500–2000 watts during brewing. Over a typical day with 4–6 brews: approx. 0.3–0.5 kWh – about half of a classic dual boiler with a constantly warm boiler.

What is the lifespan of a thermoblock machine?

With proper care and descaling, 10–15 years. Important: consistent water hardness control, as thermoblocks are more sensitive to calcification than large boilers. Filters (Brita, Aquaclean) significantly extend the lifespan.

Quick Mill POP or Luna?

Both are Italian Quick Mill thermoblocks. POP (CHF 1,099): compact entry, focused operation. Luna (CHF 1,499): extended functionality and design. For solo setups: POP. For family setups or extended functionality: Luna.

Both are Ascaso BABY T line with dual thermoblock design. BABY T ONE Black (CHF 3,949): standard variant. BABY T PLUS (CHF 4,249): extended variant with additional functionality. Compare them directly in the showroom.

Can I test thermoblock models before buying?

Yes, in the showrooms in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon. Direct comparison with classic boiler machines possible during the same appointment. Please arrange an appointment beforehand.
