Urnex was founded in the USA in 1936 and has been the café standard for cleaning products in specialty coffee for decades. What makes Urnex unmistakable
Two traits define the brand. First, the specialty coffee specialization: Urnex develops products exclusively for café workflows, grinder burr chambers, and milk systems – not as a generic cleaning product manufacturer. Second, its reach in everyday café practice: Urnex is one of the most widely used cleaning brands in specialty coffee – in our showroom just as in many cafés we know. The Urnex product family
Urnex Cafiza – the industry standard for group head backflush
Cafiza thoroughly dissolves coffee oils and leaves no residue. Application: 1–2 g in the blind basket, several backflush cycles, then rinse with clean water. The café standard worldwide.
Urnex BioCaf – the organic-certified alternative
BioCaf has the same cleaning power as Cafiza, but with organic-certified ingredients. For cafés with organic standards or environmentally conscious home setups. Cleans group heads reliably.
Urnex Grindz – grinder cleaning tablets
Grindz, developed by Urnex together with Mahlkönig (Hamburg) and patent-protected since 2013, are tablets made from organic ingredients that are ground through the grinder. They pick up coffee oil residue from the burrs and clean the grinding chamber without disassembly. According to the manufacturer, recommended weekly for espresso grinders, monthly for large retail and filter grinders.
Urnex BioCaf Alkaline Milk Cleaner – for milk systems
Urnex BioCaf Alkaline cleans steam wands, milk frothers, and milk pitchers – alkaline, dissolves milk proteins. Recommended daily at the end of the shift, especially critical for hygiene in cappuccino workflows.

Who Urnex is for
Everyone who owns an espresso machine – daily backflush with water plus regular Cafiza/BioCaf is the basic equipment for every specialty coffee setup. Cafés with a high milk drink workflow need BioCaf Alkaline Milk Cleaner as a daily must. Every grinder owner with a classic espresso or filter grinder needs Grindz regularly – weekly for espresso grinders, monthly for large shop grinders.
A clean group head means a clean taste. A resin-caked group head brings bitter, rancid notes into every shot. Urnex eliminates that.

Frequently Asked Questions
Cafiza or BioCaf?
Cleaning power is equivalent. BioCaf: organic-certified ingredients, for cafés with organic standards and environmentally conscious home setups. Cafiza: the longer-established industry standard. Both work for daily café backflush.
How does Grindz work?
Pour the tablets into the grinder (hopper or single-dose funnel); the tablets are ground like normal beans. The organic ingredients clean the burrs and grinding chamber during grinding. After using Grindz, grind through once with normal beans and discard the grounds.
How often should I backflush with Cafiza?
Professional cafés typically backflush with Cafiza daily at the end of the shift. For home setups, weekly or every 50 shots is enough. Plus a daily backflush with water only, without cleaning product.
Are Urnex products safe for my machine?
Cafiza and BioCaf are formulated for stainless steel group heads and valves and are NSF-certified for metal compatibility and safety. Approvals and warranty terms are handled differently by each manufacturer – before first use, it's worth checking the machine manual or asking us briefly.
Can I see Urnex products in person before buying?
