Dual Boiler Espresso Machines
Buy Dual Boiler Espresso Machines Switzerland – Prosumer Standard for Specialty Workflows
A dual boiler machine – as the name suggests – has two separate boilers. One holds the water for espresso extraction at typically 92 to 95 °C. The other generates steam for milk foam at 120 to 135 °C. Both circuits are separately insulated, separately PID-controlled, and you can adjust both independently.
The practical difference: you can pull espresso and froth milk simultaneously without the brewing temperature dropping. You can lower the steam temperature if you want finely textured milk foam for latte art. And you have significantly more precise temperature control than with single-boiler or HX machines. This makes dual boilers the preferred design in the prosumer segment – for home baristas who want to work with the same workflow as in a specialty café. Coffee Coaching Club carries 27 active dual boiler models from 11 brands – from entry-level home machines starting at CHF 1,789 to competition-level single groups for CHF 11,989.
Dual Boiler vs. HX – Where the Difference Lies
A heat exchanger machine (HX, also called a two-circuit machine) has only one boiler with two water flows. It functions similarly in workflow, but the brewing temperature is less precise and fluctuates more. HX machines are often cheaper and more compact. Dual boilers are more expensive but more temperature stable – especially for light specialty roasts, which require narrow temperature windows, this is noticeable.

Flow-Profiling Dual Boilers in Detail
Flow profiling (or flow control) is a rotary knob or paddle mechanism on the brew group that allows you to manually modulate the water flow during extraction. This enables gentle pre-infusion with reduced pressure, then full extraction, then optionally a decline. For light specialty roasts – which often have narrow acidity-sweetness windows – this is a concrete tool, not a marketing feature.
In the active dual boiler range with flow profiling:
- Lelit Bianca V3 (CHF 2,489) – paddle on the brew group, one of the most accessible ways to profiling
- Profitec Pro 700 Flowprofil (CHF 2,399) – rotary knob on the brew group, German manufacturing
- Profitec Pro 700 Drive (CHF 2,789) – like Pro 700 plus touch display and volumetric
- Arkel Tide (CHF 3,289) – dual boiler with gear pump and integrated profiling
- La Marzocco GS3 MP (CHF 7,589) – professional-grade manual paddle
- Slayer Single Group V4 (CHF 11,989) – the original Slayer profiling

What Goes Well With It
For grinders: Mahlkönig E65S or E80 Supreme as a specialty standard, Eureka Atom Excellence or Helios as an Italian counterpart, Weber Workshops EG-1 as premium endgame, Option-O Lagom P64 / P80 or Varia VS6 for modern premium single-dose, Mazzer Philos for Italian single-dose. For tools: Normcore WDT and Leveler, Tamper Collection. For premium scales: Acaia Lunar or Pearl. For precision baskets (58 mm): IMS Baristapro Nanotech. For milk pitchers: Motta Europa. For brewing water setup: Brita filter, Apax Labs TONIK. For cleaning: Urnex Cafiza and BioCaf. For setup organization: Flate Barista shelves. For beans from our own roastery: CCC's own roasts – dual boilers with flow profiling love light roasts like Wild Peach and Bright Cassis, classic dual boilers without profiling work well with Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the extra cost for a dual boiler worth it compared to an HX?
Depends on your workflow. If you make several cappuccinos daily for a family and work with specialty roasts (lighter profiles), then yes – the more precise brewing temperature and parallel steam workflow pay off. If you primarily pull classic darker beans and only occasionally froth, a good HX is often sufficient.
Which is the best entry-level dual boiler?
Profitec PRO 300 (CHF 1,789), Torre Mariuccia (CHF 2,249), WPM Primus (CHF 2,289), Profitec Pro 600 (CHF 2,319) and Lelit Bianca V3 (CHF 2,489) cover standard dual boiler functionality. The Bianca V3 also has flow control – often the best choice if you want to experiment with profiling later.
What is flow control in a dual boiler?
A rotary knob or paddle on the brew group that allows you to manually modulate the water flow during extraction. It enables pre-infusion with reduced pressure, then full extraction. In the active cluster: Lelit Bianca V3, Profitec Pro 700 (Flowprofil / Drive), Arkel Tide, La Marzocco GS3 MP, Slayer Single Group V4. A professional feature for specialty workflows.
ECM Synchronika or Lelit Bianca?
Both are top machines in the prosumer dual boiler class. Synchronika: German manufacturing, rotary pump, classic understated design, set-and-forget. Bianca V3: Italian, with flow control paddle for manual pressure profiling. For profiling: Bianca. For set-and-forget with German precision: Synchronika.
La Marzocco Linea Mini R or Linea Micra?
Both are La Marzocco home dual boilers. Linea Mini R (R for Rotation Pump, 2024 generation, CHF 4,789): the compact café icon, classic operation, higher cup capacity. Linea Micra: even more compact, for home setups with limited space, same La Marzocco character. You can compare both directly in the showroom.
What is the ECM Synchronika Edition No.1?
An official Mercedes-AMG special edition of the ECM Synchronika (CHF 3,889). Performance branding, exclusive material and color configuration, limited quantity. A collector's item for Mercedes-AMG fans or home setups with a clear premium Anspruch.
How long is the heat-up time for dual boilers?
Classic dual boilers with real copper or stainless steel boilers: 20–30 minutes from cold to ready for operation. Some machines like the Manument Leva (multi-flow heater instead of boiler) or Ascaso Steel Duo PID (thermoblock-based) heat up in 2–3 minutes. Most users switch on classic dual boilers first thing in the morning or via a smart timer.
What is the power consumption?
A classic dual boiler consumes about 100–150 watts in standby (both boilers warm), and briefly 1200–1800 watts during brewing. Over the course of the day – if the machine is at temperature for 8 hours – about 0.8 to 1.2 kWh per day. Thermoblock and multi-flow heater machines consume significantly less in standby, but require heating power shortly before each extraction.
What distinguishes the Bezzera Matrix Top MN from the DUO Top DE?
Both are Bezzera dual boilers with classic Italian manufacturing. Matrix Top MN (CHF 2,798): with two separate PIDs for brewing and steam circuits. DUO Top DE 3 PID (CHF 2,889): with three PIDs (brew group, brew boiler, steam boiler) for even finer temperature control.
Can I test dual boiler machines before buying?
Yes, in the showrooms in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon. We have the main models from ECM, Profitec, Lelit, Rocket, Bezzera, La Marzocco, Victoria Arduino, and Slayer on site and can have them heated up with your desired beans. Please arrange an appointment beforehand.
Is there Swiss service for dual boiler machines?
Yes. Coffee Coaching Club is the Swiss partner for all listed dual boiler brands. We coordinate service cases through Swiss workshops or direct manufacturer contact. Original spare parts are available through CCC or directly from the manufacturer.
