Arkel Coast – When Tomorrow Can't Wait

Imagine this: It's 6:45 a.m. You're running late. You want a perfect espresso—not some capsule machine concoction, but a real shot. But your machine takes 30 minutes to heat up. You don't have 30 minutes. You have 6 minutes.

This is the moment when you would have missed the Arkel Coast .

The Coast is the answer for the modern coffee connoisseur – for you, if you don't want to wait but aren't willing to compromise. Handcrafted in Porto, Portugal, it breaks with old traditions: it's ready to go in 6 minutes , its water circuit is made entirely of stainless steel (no copper, no brass, no lead), and it offers features like flow control and PID temperature control that cost thousands more on other machines.

This isn't just an espresso machine. This is a revolution – European, sustainable, uncompromising. And as an official Arkel dealer in Switzerland , we are proud to offer you this machine.

Purity you can taste – 100% stainless steel

Most espresso machines – even expensive ones – use copper or brass in their water circuits. It's tradition. It's "how it's always been done." But it's also outdated.

The Arkel Coast is radically committed to stainless steel . Every part that comes into contact with water – boiler, pipes, brew group – is made of pure stainless steel. No copper. No brass. No lead.

This isn't just more durable and sustainable. It's also more neutral in taste . Your water doesn't come into contact with any metal that can oxidize or impart flavor. Only pure steel. The result is an espresso of such clarity that you'll notice it immediately – no metallic notes, no sediment, just the pure taste of your beans.

That's the difference between "good enough" and "done right". That's European engineering.

The chemist's perspective: Flow control as a taste regulator

Why flow control fundamentally changes the taste:

As coffee roasters and flavor specialists, we understand that extraction isn't binary. It's not simply "add water and you're done." Extraction is a process – and how quickly the water flows through the puck determines what you extract.

The Arkel Coast comes standard with a needle valve (flow control paddle) on the side. This allows you to control how quickly the water hits the coffee – from low (pre-infusion) to full (15 bar maximum pressure).

Why is this important?
Normally, water is forced onto the coffee grounds at 9 bar – full pressure, instantly. With dark roasts like our Nutty Delight, this can extract too much body, leaving the sweetness behind.

With Flow Control, you can gently delay the start ( pre-infusion ). You allow the coffee grounds to bloom first (low pressure) before extracting at full pressure. The result: You unlock the natural sweetness and prevent bitterness. The shot becomes smoother, more balanced, and creamier.

With light, fruity coffees like our Wild Peach , however, you can extract more aggressively – full pressure from the start, to emphasize the lively peaks, the fruitiness, the acidity.

You're in control. That's the difference between "the machine does what it wants" and "I decide how my coffee tastes." That's control. That's craftsmanship.

Your perfect morning ritual with the Coast

The user interface is a dream in terms of touch and haptic feedback. No sticking buttons, no unclear displays. Imagine:

  1. 6:45 a.m. – Start:
You tap the elegant glass display. The Coast awakens – quietly, quickly, elegantly. While you grind your beans with the Varia VS4 (approx. 20 seconds), the machine heats up. After 6 minutes, the display flashes: Ready. Your water is at 93°C. Your steam boiler is at 130°C. You're ready to go.

  2. 6:51 AM – Setting:
You select your temperature down to the degree (PID control). Today 93°C for the Nutty Delight . Tomorrow perhaps 91°C for more sweetness. Or 90°C for the Wild Peach to maximize fruitiness. You're in control. Thanks to dual boiler technology, you can brew espresso and froth milk simultaneously – no waiting, no compromises.

  3. 6:52 AM – To play (or not to play):
You insert the portafilter. You press the button. The shot begins. Now you have two options:

Option 1 (Classic): You leave the Flow Control Paddle open. The Coast behaves like a normal machine – 9 bar, constant, perfect. You get a fantastic shot. Easy.

Option 2 (Craftsmanship): You start by slightly closing the paddle. The water slowly drips onto the puck (pre-infusion). You see the coffee grounds swell, darken, and prepare themselves. After 5 seconds, you fully open the paddle. The pressure rises to 9 bar. The shot flows – golden brown, thick, perfect. You taste it immediately: more sweetness, less bitterness, smoother, more balanced. That's control. That's craftsmanship.

  4. 6:54 a.m. – Enjoy:
You drink. And you notice: This is different. This is clearer. This is purer. No metallic aftertaste, no residue, no compromises. Just the pure taste of your beans – extracted through 100% stainless steel, controlled by PID and flow control, perfected by you.

  5. 6:55 a.m. – Stay clean:
The drip tray is huge – no constant emptying like with other machines. The Coast rinses itself automatically after every shot. You go to work. The machine is clean. You're happy.

The entire ritual – from turning it on to the perfect shot – takes 6-8 minutes. That's the difference between "I don't have time" and "I'll make time." That's why you need a Coast.

Who is the Arkel Coast right for?

You don't need the Coast. A cheaper machine will do – somehow.

But treat yourself to the Coast if:

You don't have time to waste . If you don't want to wait 30 minutes in the morning for your machine to heat up. If you have 9 minutes – no more, no less.

You seek purity . You don't want your water flowing through copper or brass. You want to taste the pure flavor of your beans – without metallic notes, without deposits. The Coast is 100% stainless steel in its water circuit. This isn't luxury. This is respect for your beans.

You want control . You don't want to just "push a button and hope for the best." You want to understand how Flow Control changes the flavor. You want to experiment—pre-infusion for dark roasts, full pressure for light roasts. The Coast gives you that control—as standard, without expensive upgrades.

Sustainability is important to you. You don't want your machine assembled from cheap parts. You value European quality – handcrafted in Porto, Portugal.

Or maybe you simply want it because it's beautiful. Because the glass display is elegant. Because the stainless steel chassis is timeless. Because the Coast isn't just a machine – it's a statement. A work of art. An upgrade to your life.

That's reason enough.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Arkel Coast

Is flow control complicated?

Not at all. You can simply leave the paddle open – then the Coast behaves like a completely normal machine (9 bar constant). But if you want to experiment, you already have the tool right there, without having to retrofit a Flow Control Kit for 200 CHF like with other machines. That's the difference between "expensive as an option" and "included as standard."

What does "saturated brewing unit" mean?

The brew head is directly connected to the boiler and actively heated (saturated group). This guarantees that your water doesn't lose any temperature on its way to the coffee. In other machines (E61 groups), the water flows through long pipes – temperature loss is unavoidable. The Coast eliminates this problem. Temperature stability = better taste.

Will the Coast suit my windmill?

The Coast works with any good espresso grinder. It combines perfectly with the Varia VS4 , VS6 , Lagom P80 , or Weber EG-1 . This is a high-end setup that shines together.

Sustainability meets high-end – tomorrow doesn't have to wait.

Roastery tip: The Coast shines with our Nutty Delight – use Flow Control for a gentle pre-infusion (5 seconds low pressure, then full pressure), and the shot will be creamy, nutty, and velvety. Zero bitterness, maximum sweetness. Or pull a Wild Peach with full pressure from the start – the fruitiness explodes, the acidity is vibrant, the clarity perfect. The Coast gives you control. You decide how your coffee tastes. That's the difference Flow Control makes. That's why you want a Coast.
