Buying Eureka in Switzerland – grinder making from Florence since 1920

Eureka has been building coffee grinders in Florence since 1920. What makes the brand interesting for home isn't one single flagship model, it's the breadth in between: there are eight steps between the compact Specialità and the Atom 75W, and each one answers a different question – do you grind from a hopper or dose by dose, do you dose by time or by weight, do you grind espresso only or for filter as well.

The models below are the ones we actually carry. You can order online, by phone or with us in the shops in Bern and Zurich.

The two motor generations

The most important technical difference within the Mignon line isn't the size of the burrs, it's the speed. The Specialità and the Libra 55 run 55 mm steel burrs at around 1350 revolutions per minute – deliberately calm. The 65 mm models of the Stark and Oro lines turn at around 1650 revolutions and work with Eureka's patented Pure Diamond burrs, also called “Diamond Inside” in the marketing.

Higher speed tends to bring more throughput and more body, lower speed is a little gentler on delicate aromatics. That is our experience and one of several possible ones – burr sets are like engines in cars, there is no objectively best one.

The Mignon family

Eureka Mignon Specialità 55

The entry point to the line: 55 mm burrs, around 1350 revolutions, stepless grind adjustment, touch display with two saved doses. You fill the hopper and take out what you need, portion by portion. For the vast majority of espresso rituals at home that is entirely enough. From CHF 497.95.

Eureka Mignon Specialità 18WD

Technically the same grinder as the Specialità 55, with wood panels instead of the plain housing. Available in matt black, white and chrome. We also carry the panels individually in oak, walnut and olive. From CHF 527.95.

Eureka Mignon Single Dose 65

No stock in the hopper: you put in exactly as many beans as you need right now, and the grinder works through them with as little retention as possible. 65 mm burrs. The model for everyone who switches between coffees and doesn't want them mixing. Also in matt black. From CHF 597.95.

Eureka Mignon Oro Stark 16CR

The Oro line with 65 mm Pure Diamond burrs, around 1650 revolutions and 320 watts. The classic hopper principle, but with considerably more throughput and larger burrs than the Specialità. In matt black/chrome from CHF 627.95, in chrome from CHF 677.95.

Eureka Oro Single Dose Pro

The single dose principle at the Oro level, with Pure Diamond burrs. For everyone who finds the Mignon Single Dose 65 not quite enough and still wants to stay with grinding dose by dose. From CHF 697.95.

Eureka Mignon Libra 55

The same compact footprint and the same calm 55 mm burr set as the Specialità, but with an integrated scale: the grinder weighs live and stops at the gram you have set. Grind by Weight in the smallest format Eureka builds. From CHF 748.95.

Eureka Mignon Libra 65 All Purpose

Grind by Weight with 65 mm burrs, and a fork that takes both the portafilter and open vessels. For everyone who doesn't grind espresso exclusively but also for V60, Chemex or French press. Matching dosing cup and brew funnel available separately. From CHF 827.95.

Eureka Mignon Stark W

The top of the Mignon line: 65 mm Pure Diamond, around 1650 revolutions, 320 watts, Grind by Weight and a 2.8-inch touch display. Large burrs and weight dosing in one machine, for everyone who doesn't want to give up either. CHF 849.00.

The Atom family

The Atom line sits a class above: larger burrs, sturdier construction, built for higher throughput – in a demanding home setup, in the office or behind the counter.

Eureka Atom 60 E

The entry point to the Atom line with 60 mm burrs and classic timed dosing from the hopper. From CHF 897.95.

Eureka Atom W 65 Casa

The home version of the Atom W: 65 mm burrs with Grind by Weight, in the more compact Casa housing. From CHF 999.95.

Eureka Atom 65W and Atom 75W

The two Grind by Weight models in café construction, with 65 and 75 mm burrs respectively. The 75W is the largest grinder we carry from Eureka – designed for continuous operation, not for three shots in the morning. Atom 65W from CHF 1'398.95, Atom 75W in matt black from CHF 1'798.95. Matching Blow-Up hopper separately.

And outside the grinder lines

Eureka Baby Grinder

Eureka's hand grinder, in walnut, olive wood with a ceramic container or anodised aluminium. No power, no motor – for travelling or as a second grinder next to the electric one. From CHF 198.95.

Eureka Costanza R

Eureka doesn't only build grinders. The Costanza R is a dual circuit machine with a heat exchanger – the only espresso machine from the brand in our range. CHF 1'999.95.

Which one suits you

If you open the lid in the morning, top up the beans and tap start: Specialità 55 or 18WD. If you want to dose to the exact gram and keep it compact: Libra 55. If you switch between coffees: Single Dose 65 or Oro Single Dose Pro. If you want larger burrs but stay with the hopper: Oro Stark 16CR. If you also grind for filter: Libra 65 All Purpose. If you want both together, large burrs and weight dosing: Stark W. And if it is about throughput rather than three cups in the morning: the Atom line.

No model here is merely the step before the next one. The Specialità isn't a small version of the Stark W, it is an independent and complete answer to the question of how you want to grind.

What goes with it

For the machine to go with it: La Marzocco, Rocket Espresso, ECM, Profitec or Bezzera. For changing burrs we carry original burrs in 50, 55 and 65 mm, and for cleaning Urnex Grindz.

For dose control on the timed models, an external scale from the Acaia collection or an affordable one from Normcore. For the single dose workflow, dosing cups and a WDT tool. For precision baskets, IMS. And for the beans: our own roasts.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a shop or an online store?

Both, and the one because of the other. You can order here, by phone or with us on site. The fact that we really do exist at two addresses – Gerberngasse 44 in Bern, Hagenholzstrasse 50b in Zurich Oerlikon – is the reason you can order a grinder costing several hundred francs online without any second thoughts.

What is the difference between the Specialità and the Libra 55?

The same 55 mm burr set, the same calm motor. The difference is the dosing: the Specialità grinds by time and you take your portions from the hopper. The Libra 55 weighs live and stops automatically at the gram you have set.

Do I need 65 mm, or are 55 mm enough?

For the usual quantities at home, 55 mm deliver a rounded result. Larger burrs grind faster and, with some beans, more evenly, but not automatically better. The question is throughput and preference rather than quality.

What exactly does single dose mean?

You put in only as many beans as you need for the brew in front of you, instead of keeping a stock in the hopper. The grinder is designed for as little retention as possible between grinds – handy if you switch between coffees more often.

What are Pure Diamond burrs?

Eureka's own patented burrs with a particularly fine crystal structure, also called “Diamond Inside” in the marketing. Fitted in the 65 mm models of the Stark and Oro lines. We also carry the burrs individually as replacements.

Can I see a Eureka before buying?

Seeing one and having it demonstrated: gladly. In Bern and Zurich Oerlikon several models stand set up and in operation – not on a plinth, but in the middle of a working café. An extended session on your own with several grinders isn't something we can sensibly offer alongside that; the consultation is there for that. It usually leads to a good decision faster than half an hour at an unfamiliar machine. Not every variant is on site at the same time – a quick call is enough and we will bring the model you want out of the warehouse.

How long does delivery take?

Standard configurations 2 to 4 working days within Switzerland and to Liechtenstein, free shipping from CHF 60. Click and Collect in Bern and Zurich. Special colours depending on availability. Financing through Heylight is possible on the larger models.

Roastery tip

Freshly ground is where a bean first shows what it can do. From our own roastery, Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight go well with every Eureka grinder – full-bodied and dense, with a sweetness that stays stable even while you fine-tune the grind. For maximum body without acidity Very Nutty, and anyone looking for something fruity will find it in Wild Peach. That is our recommendation, one of many – every other bean works just as well on these grinders.
