Buy Dosing Cups & Portafilter Dosing Cups in Switzerland

A dosing cup is the intermediary between the grinder and the portafilter in a specialty workflow. Instead of grinding directly into the portafilter, you grind into the cup – there you can weigh the ground coffee (on an Acaia Pearl or a Subminimal Subscale), loosen it with RDT (Ross Droplet Technique), WDT it, and only then transfer it to the portafilter. Often a standard tool for single-dose workflow or precise extraction consistency.

Coffee Coaching Club carries 8 active dosing cups from six brands. Designs from the affordable Rhino standard (CHF 13) to the Subminimal Subscale (CHF 49) – the only design that combines a dosing cup and a precision scale in one tool.

The brands in the cluster

Subminimal Subscale – CHF 49 (Dosing Cup + Scale in one)

CCC is the exclusive Swiss importer for Subminimal. The Subscale is a dosing cup with an integrated precision scale – you grind directly into it and see the exact amount of ground coffee in real time. Eliminates a separate scale from the workflow.

Acaia Portafilter Dosing Cup Medium – CHF 48

CCC is the exclusive Swiss importer for Acaia. Premium dosing cup, suitable for the Acaia Pearl / Lunar / Pyxis family. Stainless steel design, strong design, with clear Acaia DNA.

Normcore Premium Dosing Cup Tall – CHF 35

Available in Black and White. Tall version with extended height, ideal for single-dose workflow or shot sizes of 20–23 g.

Varia Modular Coffee Dosing Cup 54 mm Black – CHF 37

CCC is the exclusive Swiss importer for Varia. Modular design, suitable for the Varia VS3/VS4/VS6 family. 54 mm size for Sage and Breville setups, or as a standard dosing cup variant for single dosing.

Eureka – Italian Florence Manufacturer

  • Eureka Hand Brew Cup 80 g Stainless Steel (CHF 29) – for hand-brew workflows (pour-over, filter)
  • Eureka Single Dose Dosing Cup 45 g (CHF 29) – compact single-dose design

Rhino Dosing Cup Short – CHF 13 (affordable entry)

Standard stainless steel dosing cup, short design. For home setups without demanding design studio aesthetics.

Dosing Cup Workflow in Practice

Typical specialty workflow:

  1. Weigh beans on Acaia Pearl S or directly in the Subminimal Subscale
  2. Beans into the grinder (single-dose hopper or single-dose bunker)
  3. Optional RDT: a drop of water on the beans
  4. Grind into the Dosing Cup – not directly into the portafilter
  5. Weigh ground coffee in the cup (if Subscale: directly visible)
  6. WDT directly in the cup, or transfer to the portafilter and WDT
  7. Transfer to the portafilter (with dosing funnel for clean distribution)
  8. Tamp
  9. Extraction

The dosing cup is optional, but very useful for setups with precise extraction consistency or for grinders with retention (direct-feed design).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a Dosing Cup?

Three main reasons: (1) Weighing: you weigh the ground coffee after grinding, instead of just the beans before grinding – this shows grinder retention and loss. (2) RDT: you can spray water drops on the ground coffee or transfer it more easily without losing ground coffee. (3) WDT in the cup: some workflows WDT in the cup instead of the portafilter. Usually a standard tool for setups with direct-feed grinders or single dosing.

What is the Subminimal Subscale?

The Subminimal Subscale (CHF 49) is a dosing cup with an integrated precision scale. You grind directly into the cup, the display shows the exact amount of ground coffee in real time – no separate scale needed. For home workflows that want precision without buying an external Acaia Pearl S, it's a very cost-effective all-in-one solution. CCC is the exclusive Swiss importer for Subminimal.

Normcore Tall or Standard Height?

Only the Tall Version is active in the assortment (CHF 35, Black or White). With extended height, ideal for single-dose workflow with 18–23 g of ground coffee, and for setups with RDT (spraying mist on the ground coffee). The standard height variant is currently not in the assortment.

Eureka Hand Brew Cup 80 g – what for?

For hand-brew workflows (pour-over, filter): you weigh the hand-brew bean amount (typically 15–25 g) into the 80 g cup, grind, and pour directly into the pour-over dripper or Chemex. For espresso workflow, choose the smaller Single Dose Dosing Cup 45 g.

Acaia Portafilter Dosing Cup Medium – Premium or Marketing?

Truly Premium. The Acaia Dosing Cup (CHF 48) meets the material demands of the Acaia line (stainless steel with finely machined surface), matching the design of the Acaia Pearl-S or Lunar scale. For home setups that want the complete Acaia design language. If you just need a functional cup: Rhino Short (CHF 13) or Normcore Premium (CHF 35).

Which Dosing Cup for Varia VS3/VS4/VS6?

The Varia Modular Coffee Dosing Cup (CHF 37, Black 54 mm) matches the design of the Varia grinder family. For setups that want brand consistency. Functionally, however, Normcore Premium or Acaia can also be combined with Varia grinders.

Is the extra cost for stainless steel worth it?

Stainless steel dosing cups (Eureka Hand Brew, Acaia, some Normcore variants) are more robust, durable, and antistatic than plastic variants. For daily use, the extra cost is worthwhile. For occasional use, a cheaper variant is sufficient.

Can I test Dosing Cups before buying?

Yes, in the showrooms in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon. We will show you the dosing cup workflow with your preferred beans and various cup designs. Especially the Subminimal Subscale with weighing function should be experienced firsthand. Please arrange an appointment in advance.
