Buy Subminimal Subscale in Switzerland – Digital Dosing Cup with Integrated Scale
The Subminimal Subscale is a dosing cup with an integrated digital scale, a hidden LED display, and a capacitive touch switch. Weigh the beans, tip them into the grinder, and you're done – no separate scale, no transferring. Made of food-grade Tritan, it's USB-C rechargeable and IPX-4 splash-proof. Available from us at the Coffee Coaching Club , the importer for Subminimal in Switzerland .
The Subscale was awarded the title of best new coffee product by the SCA in Geneva in 2025 and has over 1000 reviews with an average rating of 4.8/5.
What the subscale does – and what it doesn't – do
The idea is simple: Instead of weighing beans on a separate scale, transferring them to a dosing cup, and then adding them to the grinder, the Subscale combines scale and cup in one device. You tap the barely visible touch button, the LED display appears, you weigh your beans directly in the cup, and then pour them into the grinder. One less step in the workflow.
The subscale does not replace a brewing scale. It is a dosing tool – not intended for weighing during extraction or for brewing with a pour-over dripper. Anyone needing a scale for extraction will still require a separate one, such as an Acaia .

Known limitations
- No timer: The subscale doesn't have a built-in timer. For timed brewing, you'll still need a separate scale or timer. This is the most frequently mentioned limitation in reviews – depending on your workflow, this may or may not be relevant.
- Not submersible: IPX-4 means splash-proof – you can rinse the subscale under running water, but do not soak it or put it in the dishwasher. The underside with the charging sensor should remain as dry as possible.
- Touch button in low light: The capacitive switch is intentionally barely visible. In very low light, it may take a moment to find it. You get used to it, but it's worth mentioning.
- Do not clean with harsh chemicals: Subminimal recommends mild soap and a soft cloth. Harsh cleaning agents can damage the material.
- Not a substitute for a brewing scale: The subscale is a dosing tool. For weighing during espresso extraction or on a pour-over dripper, you need a flat scale.
- Capacity limited to approximately 60g: This is more than sufficient for standard espresso pods (14–20g). Those wishing to weigh out larger quantities for filter coffee will reach this limit.
The Coffee Coaching Club tip: Dosage and workflow
Anyone who wants to compare different roasts quickly realizes that fluctuating dosage distorts the comparison. If the initial amount varies by 1–2g each morning, the extraction changes – regardless of the grinder or machine.
The subscale makes weighing simpler: put in the beans, read the weight, and tip it into the grinder. Especially with single-dose grinders like the Varia VS4 or Weber Workshops KEY, this results in a streamlined workflow without any need to transfer the beans.
If you use RDT (Ross Droplet Technique) – i.e., using a fine water spray before grinding to reduce static – the IPX-4 splash resistance of the Subscale is handy: you can spray directly into the cup without worrying about the electronics.
Who is the subscale suitable for?
The Subscale is designed for espresso drinkers who grind single doses daily and appreciate a compact, streamlined workflow. It eliminates a step in the process: instead of scales and a dosing cup, you have both in one device. If this appeals to you and you already own a separate brewing scale, the Subscale is a worthwhile addition.
Those who exclusively brew using pour-over and do not use an espresso machine benefit less – the cup shape lacks the flat surface needed when brewing under a dripper.

Frequently Asked Questions about Subminimal Subscale
Does the subscale have a timer?
No. The subscale is purely a dosing tool with a weighing function. For timed extraction, you need a separate scale with a timer or a timer app.
Can I draw espresso directly into the subscale?
Yes – the Tritan material is food-safe and can withstand temperatures up to 100°C for up to 2 hours. The subscale holds 120 ml of liquid, enough for one espresso. Please note that it does not have a brewing scale function (no timer, no real-time tracking). We advise against extracting directly into the cup.
How do I clean the subscale?
Wash under running water with mild soap. Do not submerge or put in the dishwasher. Do not use harsh cleaning agents.
Will the subscale fit my grinder?
The subscale isn't a collection container that clamps under the spout – you weigh the beans in the cup and tip them into the grinder from the top. Its shape is well-suited for pouring beans directly into the hopper or funnel.
How long is the delivery time?
We deliver throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein within 2–4 working days. Click & Collect is available during business hours at our showrooms in Zurich and Bern.

Roastery tip
If you want to compare different roasts, consistent dosing is key. Weigh out the same amount for our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight (e.g., 18.0g) and keep the grind size and brewing time constant. This way, you'll taste the difference between the roasts themselves – not the difference caused by fluctuating doses.
