Coffee scales
Buy Coffee Scales Switzerland – Reproducibility through precise weighing
A coffee scale is the most important measuring instrument for reproducible coffee. Espresso requires brewing time and out-weight (typically a 1:2 or 1:2.5 ratio), filter coffee requires water-in and coffee-in (typically 1:15 or 1:17), cold brew requires ratios over hours – and all of these are numbers that you can only consistently hit with a good scale. Coffee Coaching Club carries the latest range for home baristas and cafes.
What makes a good coffee scale
Three characteristics define premium scales. Firstly, response time: Espresso scales need sub-second response (200 ms or faster) to allow you to react to the shot in real-time. Filter scales can be slower (500 ms is sufficient). Secondly, resolution: 0.1 g is standard for espresso (15 g dose, 30 g out-weight), 1 g is okay for filter. Thirdly, features: Auto-tare upon cup detection, auto-timer start at the beginning of espresso extraction, Bluetooth/app integration, waterproof, fast stabilization.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which scale is right for me?
For espresso specialists: Acaia Lunar 2021 (compact, heat-resistant, sub-second). For filter brewers: Acaia Pearl 2021 or HARIO V60 Drip Scale. For single-dosing with a grinder: Acaia Pearl S or Eureka Precisa. For beginners: Coffee Coaching Club Digital Scale or Rhino Brewing Scale. For professionals: Acaia Connected Scale with app integration.
What is the difference between Pearl S vs Pearl 2021?
Pearl S is more compact with a smaller platform – ideal for single-dose hoppers or espresso machines. Pearl 2021 is a larger standard with battery backup, ideal for filter pour-over. Both have the same resolution (0.1 g) and Acaia app integration.
Do I need Bluetooth/App integration?
Not essential for pure home setups, all Acaia scales also work offline. App integration is useful for professionals (shot logging, recipe tracking) or for Connected Scale setups (La Marzocco Linea Mini R automatically controls shot stop via scale weight).
How do I care for the scale?
Wipe off water and coffee residue dry after each use. Protective covers (Acaia Pearl protective film, multifunctional protective mat, Lunar heat-resistant mat) extend the surface's lifespan. Never hold directly under water.
How do I calibrate the scale?
Acaia scales with calibration weight (100 g standard or 500 g calibration weight for grinders). Start calibration mode in the Acaia app, place the weight, confirm. Recommended once per quarter or if drift is suspected.
Can I see scales before buying?
Yes. In the showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b), we carry the most important scales. Response time, display readability, and platform stability are best judged live.
Roastery Tip
A good scale makes the difference between "this tastes different today" and "I want this shot again tomorrow". For Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight, we recommend an 18 g dose, 36 g out-weight (1:2 ratio), 28 seconds shot time with an Acaia Lunar 2021. For Wild Peach or Bright Cassis with a lighter roast, you can go for 1:2.5 (45 g out-weight) and 30 seconds – the fruit comes out clearer with a bit more extraction. Without a precise scale, you won't hit these values reproducibly.
