Acaia Umbra Lunar – display-free coffee scale with Magic Relay
The Acaia Umbra Lunar is a coffee scale without its own display: it sits flat on the drip tray, and its weight appears on a paired Acaia scale or in the app. Buy in Switzerland, with showrooms in Bern and Zurich.
It is built with the same industrial weighing technology as all Acaia scales, in a water-resistant housing of anodized aluminum. It fits on espresso machines and, according to Acaia, is suitable for use in any commercial environment. We are the official Swiss importer of Acaia.
Features of the Acaia Umbra Lunar
Magic Relay
With the Magic Relay function, Acaia scales share their measurement data in real time and their displays are connected. Tapping a scale switches its reading to the paired device. When the weight changes, the display updates automatically.
Freely combinable
You combine the Umbra the way it suits your workflow: with an espresso machine and the Pearl, or with the Acaia app on your smartphone. Via the app you can also use it as a standalone scale.
Industrial weighing technology
The Umbra uses Acaia ReacX weighing technology, which according to Acaia is designed for high accuracy and repeatability: the scale shows the actual weight with minimal deviation. Readability 0.1 g or 0.01 g, repeatability and linearity 0.1 g each.
Low energy consumption
Without a display, the Umbra uses less power than other scales. This extends battery life to 40 to 48 hours of active use and up to 14 days on standby, so you charge it less often.
In everyday use
It pairs well with the Pyxis from our Acaia Collection: the Pyxis provides the display, the Umbra sits under the machine and supplies the weight. It also works with the Pearl or the Lunar. According to Acaia, the Umbra is compatible with Pearl Model S (PS003/PS004), Pearl (AP007/AP008/AP009), Lunar (AL008 to AL013) and Pyxis (APS001); the firmware should be up to date.
Clean it with a soft cloth and warm water. Detergents, solvents and extended soaking attack the anodized surface.
For us, good espresso starts with the ratio of input to output, not with time. We grind fine, start at 14.5 grams and usually work up to 17 grams, at a ratio below 1:2. No shot is the same as yesterday's, because bean, humidity and person change daily. The Umbra shows the weight where you are looking. Whether you want a display-free second scale is a matter of taste. That is our view, one of many.

Who the Umbra Lunar is for
The Umbra Lunar is for anyone who already uses an Acaia scale and wants to extend their workflow, for example with a flat second scale under the machine whose readings appear on the existing display. It also suits anyone who likes a display-free counter or reads their values on a smartphone. The Umbra deliberately has no display of its own. If you are looking for a standalone scale with a screen, choose the Lunar or Pearl. Every setup is welcome here.

Does the Acaia Umbra Lunar have its own display?
No, that is intentional. The Umbra Lunar is display-free and shows its values via the Magic Relay function on a paired Acaia scale or via the Acaia app on your smartphone. This saves power.
Which devices can the Acaia Umbra Lunar connect to?
Via Magic Relay it pairs with other Acaia scales, according to Acaia with Pearl Model S, Pearl, Lunar and Pyxis. Alternatively, you connect it directly to the Acaia app via Bluetooth. This way it shares its weight in real time on a common display.
Do I absolutely need a second Acaia scale for the Umbra Lunar?
No. You can also use the Umbra Lunar on its own via the Acaia app on your smartphone. When paired, it shares display and data with a second Acaia scale.
How do I clean the Acaia Umbra Lunar?
With a soft cloth and warm water. Avoid detergents, solvents or extended soaking, as these can attack the anodized coating of the aluminum housing.
Can I see the Acaia Umbra Lunar before buying?
That depends on whether the Umbra Lunar is currently on display. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) we show a large selection, but not the entire range. Tip from the roastery: We like the Umbra where space is tight and the main scale's display is within reach anyway. For the espresso that follows, we like to reach for Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight: full-bodied, sweet, dense.
