Very Nutty – bold Robusta from India

Roasted walnut, a rich, almost syrupy body, and a thick, long-lasting crema: Very Nutty is our boldest house coffee – a pure Robusta from South India for anyone looking for maximum fullness without any acidity.

We roast it body-forward in our Swiss coffee roastery, so its nutty warmth and its crema can fully come through.

Strength from the highlands of South India

In Karnataka and Kerala, the Robusta plants grow under dense canopy at 850 to 950 metres of altitude. There they develop their typical strength, the voluminous crema, and the unmistakable nutty notes.

In the cup, Very Nutty shows itself full-bodied and creamy at the same time – a coffee that carries strength and fullness without losing its balance.

Why Robusta fits so well here

Robusta naturally brings more body, a more stable crema, and very low acidity. That's exactly what makes Very Nutty a dense, nutty base – neat as a bold espresso or as the foundation for milk drinks with real depth.

How Very Nutty tastes in the cup

As an espresso, it turns dense, nutty, and creamy, with a crema that holds. We extract by weight ratio, with 1:2 as a starting point – around 18 g of coffee to 36 g of espresso. In milk, it becomes an earthy, warm, nutty cappuccino with plenty of substance.

There's no right or wrong here – the coffee has to taste good to you, that's the only thing that matters. And because the bean, the humidity, and you yourself change every day, no cup is ever exactly like the last.

Who Very Nutty is made for

For anyone who likes it maximally full-bodied, creamy, and nutty – without pronounced acidity. If you love bold espresso and rich milk drinks, you're in the right place. No prior experience needed, every coffee path is welcome.

What you need for it

Freshly ground, the crema comes out best. In our coffee grinders you'll find affordable and precise options like the Varia VS3, while the Varia VS6 offers more room to play; for hand grinding, there are the Comandante hand grinders.

Because Very Nutty turns out especially nice in milk, a good pitcher from the barista milk pitchers is worth it – compact from Normcore or premium from Weber Workshops and Rhino. To get the ratio right, a scale helps: compact from the Normcore Collection, or with app and flow-rate display from the Acaia Collection.

The roast profile of this bean was developed by Yalcin, a qualified food chemist with over 15 years of experience in the international flavour industry, most recently as Senior Taste Designer at Philip Morris International. More about his background in our roastery.

From the roastery: Very Nutty is our answer for anyone who wants maximum body without acidity. As an espresso, we start at 1:2 and like it brewed a touch warmer, so the crema stays dense; in milk, it carries through effortlessly. Together with Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, it forms our body-forward line for the vast majority – if you love it fruity and bright, you'll find Wild Peach and Bright Cassis in our coffee beans. That's our recommendation, one of many.
