German espresso machines are a phenomenon in their own right. They adopt the Italian design – E61 brew group, stainless steel casing, vibratory or rotary pumps – and combine it with German manufacturing precision: tighter tolerances, higher material quality, longer warranties, globally available spare parts. The market in Switzerland is almost entirely served by two Heidelberg brands: ECM and Profitec. Both belong to ECM Manufacture GmbH and have been manufactured in Germany for decades.
Other German manufacturers (Bezzera Germany, La Pavoni German representatives) are essentially distributors of Italian brands – ECM and Profitec are the true German manufacturers in the espresso machine segment. In the grinder sector, there are also Mahlkönig from Hamburg, Kinu, Comandante, and NECCST as premium German hand grinders.
Has been building prosumer machines for the German-speaking market since the 1990s. The Synchronika is the best-selling dual boiler machine in its class, with a rotary pump, two insulated boilers, and PID. Technika VI as a more modern dual boiler version. Classika PID, Puristika, and Mechanika VI Slim for the HX class. Elektronika Profi II for the high-end segment. Special feature: ECM Synchronika Edition No.1 is an official Mercedes-AMG special edition – a collector's item with performance branding.
More design-oriented version with a classic Italian look and German manufacturing. The model range is organized by numbers:
Mahlkönig is the professional German grinder brand par excellence. X54 (household grinder, CHF 519), X64 SD (single dose, CHF 499), E64 WS (Grind-by-Weight, CHF 999), E65S (professional, CHF 2,049), E65W GBS (Grind by Synch, CHF 2,598), E80 Supreme (professional, CHF 2,980), E80 GBW (CHF 3,519), E80W GBS (CHF 3,689), EK43 / EK43 S (all-round professional, CHF 3,049), EK OMNIA (CHF 3,349). The EK43 is the most widely used filter coffee grinder in specialty cafés worldwide.
Kinu M47 family: Phoenix (CHF 224), Traveler (CHF 234), Rebel (CHF 284), Simplicity (CHF 314), M47 Classic (CHF 374), Titan (CHF 489). Conical stainless steel burrs, German manufacturing precision, recognized as the gold standard for hand espresso in the home barista community.
Comandante C40 MK4 family with Nitro-Blade burrs: X25 Trailmaster Dune (CHF 234), MK4 Nitro Blade (CHF 258), MK4 Lab Series Tigershark (CHF 279), C60 Baracuda Nautilus Blue / Stone Washed (CHF 599, limited), C60 Baracuda Velvet Steel (CHF 899, very limited). Classic filter and pour-over grinder with a clear grind profile.
NECCST Series 1 (CHF 1,199) is the German premium hand grinder with the Red Dot Award 2026. Grinding precision and design ambition in the same league as Weber Workshops or Option-O – but as a hand grinder, not electric.
Three differences from the typical Italian design:
First: Material thickness and workmanship. Stainless steel components are often thicker, screw connections more precise, and gap dimensions tighter. The machines feel "more solid" in hand, even if the weight is similar.
Second: Spare parts supply. ECM and Profitec have a dense service network in Germany and guarantee spare parts for very long periods. An ECM Synchronika from 2010 can still be repaired today with original spare parts.
Third: Component sourcing. The brands often rely on higher-quality suppliers for pumps (Fluid-o-Tech, Ulka red), solenoid valves (OLAB), pressure gauges, and control electronics – which is noticeable in terms of lifespan and accuracy.

The Profitec Pro 700 Flowprofil (CHF 2,399) has a rotary knob on the brew group for manual flow profiling during extraction – gentle pre-infusion, then full pressure, then decline. For home baristas who want to experiment with pressure profiles.
The Profitec Pro 700 Drive (CHF 2,789) is the extended version with a touch display, volumetric extraction, and an integrated control interface. For setups that want digital operating comfort without moving into the La Marzocco league.
For machines over CHF 3,000, we include a free barista workshop in our roastery. Swiss service and spare parts via CCC or directly from the ECM factory in Heidelberg. We organize delivery and installation. Heylight installment payment possible. Free shipping in Switzerland and Liechtenstein for orders over CHF 60.
Most ECM and Profitec models are available in the showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) – direct comparison with Italian counterparts (Bezzera, Lelit, Rocket) is possible. Please arrange an appointment beforehand.
For the grinder (German machine + German grinder): Mahlkönig X54, X64 SD, E64 WS or E80 Supreme. For an Italian-German combination: Eureka Mignon or Mazzer Philos. For modern engineered grinders: Varia VS3/VS6, Option-O Lagom 01/P80, Weber Workshops EG-1. For tools: Normcore, Tamper. For premium scales: Acaia Lunar. For precision baskets: IMS Baristapro Nanotech. For milk pitchers: Motta Europa. For brewing water setup: Brita filter, Apax Labs TONIK. For cleaning: Urnex Cafiza and BioCaf. For setup organization: Flate Barista shelves. For accessories and spare parts: Accessories collection. For beans from our own roastery: CCC own roasts with Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight, Wild Peach and Bright Cassis.
Technically, ECM and Profitec are very similar (shared manufacturing in Heidelberg, often identical components). The main difference lies in the design: ECM is classically conservative with focused operation, while Profitec is more modern and design-oriented, often with more striking color and material options. Functionally comparable – an aesthetic decision.
Both are top machines in the prosumer dual boiler class. ECM Synchronika: German manufacturing, classically understated design, rotary pump, very stable temperature control. Lelit Bianca: Italian, with a flow control paddle for manual pressure profiling during extraction. If you want profiling, the Bianca is the more direct choice. If you want a rock-solid set-and-forget machine, the Synchronika.
An official Mercedes-AMG special edition of the Synchronika. Performance branding, exclusive material and color configuration, limited quantity. A collector's item for Mercedes-AMG fans or home setups with clear premium aspirations. Price CHF 3,889.
Both are dual boilers. Pro 600 (CHF 2,319): solid standard dual boiler, classic operation. Pro 700 Flowprofil (CHF 2,399): with manual flow control rotary knob on the brew group for pressure profiling. Pro 700 Drive (CHF 2,789): Pro 700 plus touch display and digital control interface. For set-and-forget: Pro 600. For hands-on profiling: Pro 700 Flowprofil. For digital plus profiling: Pro 700 Drive.
Profitec's Spring-Lever machine. Dual boiler design with lever mechanics – classic spring pressure lever character with modern boiler technology. For home baristas who want lever design but boiler comfort instead of direct lever technology (Olympia Cremina) or multi-flow heater (Manument).
As with any modern espresso machine: electronic temperature control that keeps the boiler at a constant set temperature. On ECM and Profitec, PID control is easily accessible – via clear buttons or simple menus, without complicated software operation.
With proper care, 15–25 years. The ECM factory guarantees spare parts for a very long time, and independent service workshops in Germany and Switzerland routinely repair ECM and Profitec. One of the main advantages over cheaper brands without a clear service structure.
Standard models are usually in stock or available with a few weeks' lead time. For special color variants (Profitec Move Exclusive Line, Heritage Line, special editions, ECM Synchronika Edition No.1) and the Pro 800, there is a slightly longer waiting time. We clarify the current status for each order individually.
Two direct competitors in the home espresso grinder class. Mahlkönig X54 (CHF 519): 54-mm flat burrs, German manufacturing, classically strict operating concept. Eureka Mignon Specialita (CHF 497): 55-mm flat burrs, Italian, touch display, wider design variants. Both deliver similar quality in the cup. A question of workflow and aesthetics.
Both are all-round grinders with 98-mm flat burrs, both specialty café standard. EK43: classic version with hopper and steel casing. EK43 S: revised version with improved spout and some detailed optimizations. Functionally very similar.
Yes. Kinu is a German premium hand grinder manufacturer, known for the M47 family with stainless steel burrs. Comandante is also German, focusing on the C40 MK4 family with Nitro-Blade burrs. Both are considered the gold standard in their respective segments (Kinu: hand espresso, Comandante: hand filter).
Yes, in the showrooms in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon. ECM Synchronika, Technika VI, Profitec Pro 600/700/800 and other models are available on site – heated up, with your desired bean. Please arrange an appointment beforehand.
