Eureka Mignon Libra 65 All Purpose – Grind-by-Weight Grinder for Espresso and Filter

Espresso in the morning. Little sugar, lots of milk – you know your ratio. V60 at noon, clear and vibrant, with the same beans but a completely different grind. French Press or Aeropress on the weekend. And because the large adjustment dial on the grinder has a revolution counter, you know exactly where you were with your espresso this morning and where you need to return for your filter coffee. One grinder, multiple worlds, no drama.

What Makes the Libra 65 All Purpose Different

The Libra 65 All Purpose is Eureka's answer to an honest question: What if someone doesn't just drink espresso? Four things distinguish it from the smaller Libra 55 – and thus from almost everything else on the market in the same price range.

Firstly: 65-millimeter flat burrs instead of 55. The larger grinding surface breaks down beans evenly across a wider range of particles – making it suitable for both fine espresso grinding and coarser filter grinding. Eureka calls this geometry "All Purpose": a deliberately broad design rather than an espresso specialization.

Secondly: Blind Upper Burr. The upper grinding disc no longer has screw holes. Sounds small, but it's a big deal: coffee grounds no longer get stuck in the holes, retention decreases, and every new grinding process delivers fresh powder instead of remnants from the previous day.

Thirdly: Instant Grind Weighing Technology. As with the Libra 55, the 65 AP grinds by weight, not by time. A precision scale sits in the portafilter holder, taring your empty portafilter or the included All Purpose Cup and measuring in real-time how much ground coffee is falling into it. When you reach your target weight, it stops. Two programs can be saved, plus a Continuous mode.

Fourthly: King-Size Dial with Revolution Counter. Probably the most important change in everyday use. Instead of a stepless knob under the motor, there's a large, easy-to-grip aluminum adjustment dial with a counter on top of the grinder. You go from espresso at "3.5" to filter at "12.2" and back again – without notes, without forgetting, without re-dialing. Patent pending, manufactured by Conti Valerio in Sesto Fiorentino near Florence.

65 Millimeter Flat Burrs, Hardened Steel, 1350 RPM

Inside, the 65-millimeter flat burrs made of hardened steel work, driven by a direct drive at 1350 revolutions per minute and 310 watts. The low speed is intentional: it keeps the grinding discs cooler, protects delicate aroma compounds, and delivers a consistent grind across all brewing methods. Eureka's patented Silent Technology dampens motor noise, and the ACE system reduces static and clumping. Stepless Micrometric Regulation patented by Eureka – infinitely fine adjustments, plus several revolutions of play from fine espresso to coarse French Press grind.

Versatile Fork – Portafilter Today, All Purpose Cup Tomorrow

The new Versatile Fork is the physical counterpart to the grinder's dual nature. In espresso mode, it holds a 53mm, 54mm, or 58mm portafilter so that the scale measures precisely. In filter mode, you swap the portafilter for the included All Purpose Cup; the grinder recognizes it, re-tares itself, and grinds the filter coffee directly into the cup. Height adjustment without tools. Sounds simple. In everyday life, it's the difference between "I use my grinder for everything" and "I ended up getting a second grinder for filter coffee."

When the 65 AP, When the Libra 55?

That's the honest question. If you only drink espresso and value grinding speed, the Libra 55 is a better choice – it's faster than the 65 AP for espresso (1.8 to 2.5 grams per second vs. 0.8 to 1.2 g/s). If, however, filter coffee, pour-over, French Press, or Aeropress are a regular part of your coffee ritual, the 65 AP offers a true all-rounder with large burrs and low retention. Both grinders are good. They are good in different ways for different people. Our opinion is one of many – if you're unsure, visit our showrooms in Bern or Zurich.
