Eureka Mignon Libra – Grind-by-Weight Espresso Grinder with 55mm Steel Burrs
Seven in the morning. The portafilter slides into the fork, a short beep, you tap the display once – and as you reach for your cup, the espresso grounds fall gram by gram into the basket. No stopwatch, no re-weighing, no catching drips from the dispensing chute. The grinder knows when to stop.
Grinding by Weight – The Small Revolution in Grinder Design
Most grinders grind by time. Five seconds, six seconds, maybe seven at some point – depending on bean moisture, hopper fill level, and daily form. The Eureka Mignon Libra grinds by weight. A precision scale is integrated into the portafilter holder, automatically taring your empty portafilter and measuring in real-time how much espresso grounds are falling into it. When you reach the programmed target weight, the grinder stops. You can save two programs – typically a single and a double shot – plus a continuous mode for everything in between. Eureka's patented Instant Grind Weighing Technology is what the manufacturer calls it. In everyday life, it means: forget about weighing.
55 Millimeter Flat Burrs, Hardened Steel, 1350 RPM
Inside, 55-millimeter flat burrs made of hardened steel are at work, driven by a direct drive with 1350 revolutions per minute and 310 watts. The low speed is no coincidence: it keeps the burrs cooler, preserves delicate aroma compounds, and delivers a more uniform grind than faster designs. Eureka's patented Silent Technology dampens motor noise, ensuring the grinder doesn't wake anyone in the house in the morning. The ACE System reduces static and clumps – the espresso grounds fall loosely and evenly into the portafilter instead of sticking in the chute.
Stepless Grind Adjustment
You adjust the grind size using the stepless knob system below the motor – Eureka's patented Stepless Micrometric Regulation. No clicks, no steps, you adjust exactly as finely as you need, and multiple rotations give you a wide range from espresso to almost filter. The new Versatile Fork is height-adjustable without tools, so every portafilter – whether 53mm, 54mm, or 58mm – fits perfectly. The included magnetic Dosing Funnel makes filling larger doses from eight grams clean and uncomplicated.
What Grind-by-Weight Really Changes in Everyday Life
What a grinder of this class solves for most people: you no longer tare manually. You no longer curse when there's a gram too little or too much in the basket. You repeat your recipe day after day with a consistency that time-based grinders cannot achieve in principle. Espresso is complex, but not rocket science. You get a constant in a world full of variables – bean, humidity, daily form – and your shot remains reproducible from morning to morning. This isn't espresso policing; it's simply peace in your workflow. Our opinion is one of many, but we have seen the Libra with home baristas in our showrooms in Bern and Zurich for years – and it reliably solves the weighing problem for the vast majority.

Who the Libra is Made For
The Libra is suitable for anyone who pulls espresso daily at home and wants a consistent dose without an external scale. If you are currently working with a grinder without a scale and get tangled between a tare scale and a wiping cloth when weighing, the Libra will save you noticeable time. If you dream of auto-tampers, single-dose workflow, or large flat burrs from 64 millimeters, you should check out our other Eureka range or the Option-O Lagom series. If you prefer a hand grinder: The Comandante series is still the benchmark in the manual sector. No budget is just entry-level – the Libra plays in a league where workflow comfort and grind quality meet, but it's not a must-have. Anyone who is keen on the setup knows why.
Matching Setup around the Libra
Since the Libra handles dosing itself, you don't necessarily need an external scale for the espresso workflow. If you still want to weigh under the cup – for example, for the output weight in a 1:2 or 1:2.5 ratio – you can choose either the affordable, precise Normcore scale or the Acaia with app, flow rate display, and Bluetooth.
The same principle applies to workflow accessories: both price segments are honestly good. Affordable and well-designed: Normcore Tamper, WDT Tool, Puck Screen, Tamping Station. If you want tools made for life: Weber Workshops Tamper, Moonraker WDT Tool, Tamping Station.
The Libra fits virtually any semi-automatic machine with portafilters up to 58 millimeters. Our coffee machine comparison and advice tool helps with selection. If you want to know how grind-by-weight grinders compare: Grinder Comparison Grind-by-Weight.
Ultimately, every workflow needs the right bean. Our CCC beans from our own roastery are developed for machines like the Libra.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Eureka Mignon Libra
How accurate is the integrated scale?
You program your target weight in grams. The Libra automatically recognizes the inserted portafilter, tares itself, and stops when the target dose is reached. In practice, we experience the accuracy as significantly more precise than any time-based dosing – because bean moisture, grind drift, and hopper fill level no longer affect the final weight.
Is the Libra a single-dose grinder?
No. The Libra has a 300-gram bean hopper (optional 510 grams) and is designed as an on-demand grinder with a hopper. Those looking for single-dose in the sense of "filling one dose of beans per shot at the top" are better served with the Option-O Lagom series or other single-dose models. The Libra was built to consistently and cleanly break down a filled hopper into espresso quantities.
Does the Libra fit every espresso machine?
The height-adjustable Versatile Fork and the included Dosing Funnel cover all common portafilter standards – 53mm, 54mm, and 58mm. This means the Libra fits all typical home espresso machines, from smaller Lelit and Profitec models to La Marzocco Linea Mini and Mini R. If you are unsure, you can use the consultation tool or discover it in person at our showrooms.
How loud is the Libra?
Eureka calls the noise reduction "Silent Technology" – the Libra is noticeably quieter than typical direct-drive grinders without sound insulation. In a quiet kitchen at seven in the morning, the noise remains at a pleasant level. The manufacturer does not officially publish a specific dB value, so we consciously refrain from using numbers that we have not measured ourselves.
Can I see the Libra live before buying?
Yes. As a Eureka partner in Switzerland, we display the Libra in our two showrooms: Bern, Gerberngasse 44, and Zurich, Hagenholzstrasse 50b. If not all colors are currently on site, we can arrange it at short notice – a call during business hours is sufficient. Online, we deliver within 2 to 4 working days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Financing is available upon request.
Do I need an additional external scale?
Not for the pure espresso workflow – the Libra handles dosing itself. However, an external scale under the cup for weighing the final espresso weight in a 1:2 or 1:2.5 ratio still makes sense, as it controls the extraction itself. If you already do pour-over or Aeropress, you'll have a scale within reach anyway. Recommendations can be found above under "Matching Setup".
Roastery Tip
From a roastery perspective: a grinder like the Libra brings out the best in full-bodied espressos. With its 55-millimeter steel burrs and consistent grind size, it cleanly reproduces the chocolate, nut, and caramel notes of our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight – this is our main recommendation for the vast majority. For those seeking maximum body without any acidity, choose Very Nutty. And for the adventurous who are looking for a vibrant, fruity experience, there is our Wild Peach. But this is just our recommendation. The beauty of the espresso ritual: you decide what tastes good to you. Every shot is unique – bean and person change daily. This is not a limitation; it is the most beautiful thing about it.
