Profitec

Profitec Switzerland – Espresso Machines from the Bammental Manufactory

You lift the lever of the Pro 700 DRIVE. The OLED display shows brew temperature and shot timer, the manometer builds pressure, the rotary pump operates quietly in the background. You regulate the flow at the Flow Profile Valve at the top of the E61 brew group – a slow start, then more water, and a gentle decline at the end. The shot lands in the glass, dark, viscous, with a dense crema. What you're operating is a portafilter machine from the same engineering group as the ECM Synchronika 2 OLED – a sister brand under the same roof, with the same technical background, but its own design language.

Profitec is the older of the two brands within the Hauck family. Profitec profi-technische Produkte GmbH has existed since 1985 as an import business for Italian espresso brands (Gaggia, La Cimbali, La Pavoni, Vibiemme). The own Profitec espresso machine brand was launched in 1990. ECM Manufacture joined as a sister brand in 1996. Both brands share engineering, production, and many components, but operate with independent portfolios and design languages. In recent years, Profitec has increasingly focused on modular customization (interchangeable side panels), integrated modern features (OLED display, factory-installed flow control, wake-up function), and a new generation of names (verb names like GO, MOVE, DRIVE instead of the classic PRO-### logic). Coffee Coaching Club is a partner of Profitec Switzerland – the current portfolio is directly available, delivery in a few days, showrooms in Bern and Zurich.

What makes Profitec special

Three things. First: Profitec and ECM belong to the same family. Pro 700 DRIVE and ECM Synchronika 2 OLED are technically closely related; Pro 600 and the ECM heat exchangers share a basic architecture. Those who choose the Profitec character get German engineering – just in a different design language. Second: Brew group diversity. Profitec covers three different concepts – ring brew group (in PRO 100 GO, PRO 300, and MOVE), classic E61 (in PRO 400, PRO 500 QS, Pro 600, Pro 600 QS, Pro 700 Flowprofil, and Pro 700 DRIVE), and spring lever group (Pro 800). Third: Early integration of modern features. OLED displays, factory-installed flow control, wake-up timers, customization lines with interchangeable side panels – Profitec was a little ahead of other E61 specialists in this regard.

All Profitec espresso machines use 58 mm portafilters – industry standard, compatible with IMS and other precision baskets as well as 58 mm tampers.

Understanding the three Profitec brew groups

Profitec is the only brand in our range that offers three different brew group architectures in parallel. Which architecture is more sensible depends on the workflow – none is better, they are just different.

Ring Brew Group (saturated brew group)
A saturated brew group sits directly on the brew boiler. Brew water is immediately available, without a thermosyphon detour. Fast heat-up time, quick thermal response, less mass and less thermal inertia. Installed in Profitec models PRO 100 GO, PRO 300, and MOVE Exclusive Line. Advantage: ready in a few minutes. Character: technically modern.
E61 Brew Group (mechanical thermosyphon group)
Developed by Faema in 1961, today it is the industry standard for high-quality home espresso machines. Hot brew water circulates in a thermosyphon circuit through a heavy, preheated metal head. The mechanical lever at the top of the group controls the water flow and provides gentle pre-infusion due to its design. Installed in Profitec models PRO 400, PRO 500 QS, Pro 600, Pro 600 QS, Pro 700 Flowprofil, and Pro 700 DRIVE. Advantage: classic Italian espresso tradition with high thermal stability. Longer heat-up time, significantly shortened with Fast Heat-Up in newer models.
Spring Lever Brew Group
Manual lever machine without an electric pump for extraction. When the lever is raised, an internal spring is tensioned; the spring pushes the brew water through the puck over the course of the shot. High initial pressure, falling pressure curve. Only installed in the Pro 800. Advantage: direct mechanical feedback, fully analog workflow without volumetric dosing and without automatic shot timer.

Weight 31 kg. From CHF 2'399.95.

Profitec Pro 700 DRIVE

The current E61 dual boiler flagship in the new verb-name generation. Same boiler architecture as the Pro 700 Flowprofil (0.75 L brew, 2 L steam boiler, both PID), E61 brew group, rotary pump, direct water connection or tank mode. The core updates compared to the Pro 700 Flowprofil: integrated flow control ex works (flow profile valve permanently installed, water flow to the brew group adjustable in active and passive pre-infusion mode), OLED display with extended menu functions, Fast Heat-Up mode, programmable on and off times. The DRIVE is technically closely related to the ECM Synchronika 2 OLED Exclusive Line – differences lie in aesthetics (DRIVE is more minimalist, Synchronika 2 OLED is more polished) and detailed features (Synchronika 2 with heating cartridge quick heating directly in the brew group, classic joystick valves). From CHF 2'789.95.

Lever Machine

Profitec Pro 800

The spring lever machine in the Profitec program. Instead of a pump and E61, the Pro 800 uses a 7.8 kg spring lever brew group – manual extraction by tensioning an internal spring when raising the lever, then controlled pressure drop over the shot. 3.5 L copper steam boiler, dipper system (brew water taken from the steam boiler – brew temperature management runs via boiler setpoint and pacing), PID for boiler temperature (discreetly placed behind the drip tray), large pine-green boiler pressure gauge, toggle valves for steam and hot water, handcrafted handles and portafilters made of American walnut (lever, toggle valves, and portafilter), direct water connection or tank mode (2.8 L water tank). Vibration pump is solely for boiler filling in tank mode, deactivated with direct water connection. Manual lever workflow without volumetrics, without automatic shot timer, without automated pre-infusion. Weight 35.5 kg. For lever enthusiasts in the Profitec universe – this is a conscious decision against pump technology. CHF 3'289.95.

Profitec and ECM – the same family, two languages

Pro 700 DRIVE and ECM Synchronika 2 OLED share the technology (dual boiler, E61, rotary pump, OLED display, comparable boiler sizes) and differ in design, features, and detailed functionalities. The Pro 700 DRIVE positions itself as somewhat more progressive with integrated flow control and Fast Heat-Up; the Synchronika 2 OLED features heating cartridges directly in the brew group for a different quick heat-up logic, classic joystick valves, and slightly more traditional lines. The choice between ECM and Profitec is often a matter of taste – which design language and feature logic appeals to you more. Both are legitimate. Those who want it, know why.

Who Profitec is for

Profitec is suitable for anyone seeking German espresso engineering and valuing modern features – OLED displays, integrated flow control, programmable pre-infusion, customization lines with interchangeable side panels. Home baristas who want to make the leap into the E61 world without going into the commercial segment. Families with a regular cappuccino workflow who want a dual boiler in a compact format (PRO 300 or MOVE). People who prefer a minimalist design language and want a device that remains repairable for decades. For a compact single boiler with a ring group head: PRO 100 GO. For an E61 heat exchanger: PRO 400 or PRO 500 QS (with QuickSteam). For a compact dual boiler with a ring group head in the classic line: PRO 300. For a compact dual boiler with a ring group head and OLED in the new line: MOVE Exclusive Line. For an E61 dual boiler with full steam reserve: Pro 600 or Pro 600 QS (with toggle valves and QuickSteam). For a dual boiler flagship with manual flow control: Pro 700 Flowprofil. For a dual boiler flagship with integrated flow control ex works, OLED, and fast heat-up: Pro 700 DRIVE. For a lever machine without pump extraction: Pro 800.

What differentiates the Profitec PRO 300 from the Pro 600?

Both are dual boilers. However: the PRO 300 has a ring group head (saturated group head directly on the brew boiler) and a more compact format (255 × 415 mm footprint, 18 kg), while the Pro 600 has an E61 group head with a stainless steel bell and thermosiphon mechanism (305 × 450 mm footprint, 24 kg). If you want fast heat-up time and a compact format, choose the PRO 300; if you want classic E61 tradition and more steam reserve, choose the Pro 600.

Why does Profitec offer two generations of names in parallel?

Profitec is gradually updating the classic PRO-### line with a new generation using verb names: GO will eventually replace the Casa-V class, MOVE is positioned as a dual boiler extension alongside the Pro 300, and DRIVE is the further development of the Pro 700. Currently, both generations are available – CCC carries a mix of the classic line (Pro 300, Pro 400, Pro 500 QS, Pro 600, Pro 600 QS, Pro 700 Flowprofil, Pro 800) and the new line (PRO 100 GO, MOVE Exclusive Line, Pro 700 DRIVE). Other verb-name models like JUMP (heat exchanger update) and RIDE (Pro-600 update) are available internationally, but currently not in the CCC program – for such inquiries, please contact us personally.

What is the difference between Pro 700 Flowprofil and Pro 700 DRIVE?

Both use the same boiler architecture (0.75 L brew, 2 L steam, both PID-controlled), E61 group head, and rotary pump. The Pro 700 Flowprofil has a flow profile valve at the top of the E61 group head for manual water flow control during extraction. The Pro 700 DRIVE additionally comes with integrated flow control ex works, with active and passive pre-infusion modes, an OLED display with extended menu functions, a fast heat-up mode, and programmable on/off times. If you want direct mechanical flow control, you'll find it in both. If you also want the electronic convenience layer, choose the DRIVE.

What group head does the Profitec PRO 100 GO have?

The GO has a ring group head – this is a saturated group head that sits directly on the brew boiler. Not E61 (no thermosiphon circuit), not a thermoblock (not a flow heater principle). The ring group offers fast heat-up time (5 to 7 minutes with Fast Heat-Up) and fast thermal response. PID control with shot timer, externally accessible expansion valve for manual brew pressure adjustment. The GO is the only Profitec model still manufactured in Milan (Italy) – all other models come from Bammental near Heidelberg (Germany).

Profitec PRO 300 with E61 or ring group head?

The PRO 300 has a ring group head with a 0.325 L brass boiler – not E61. This is also the central difference to the Pro 600, which is positioned as an E61 dual boiler. The PRO 300 shares its ring group with the other Profitec models PRO 100 GO and MOVE Exclusive Line.

What is the difference between Profitec Pro 600 and Pro 600 QS?

Both are E61 dual boilers with two PID-controlled boilers (0.75 L brew, 1 L steam boiler), vibration pump, and internal water tank. The Pro 600 has low-wear rotary valves for steam and hot water. The Pro 600 QS additionally features the QuickSteam function for faster steam production and professional toggle valves instead of rotary valves – relevant for anyone who regularly prepares several milk drinks in a row and wants a more barista-like workflow.

Why does ECM have an almost identical machine to the Pro 700 DRIVE?

ECM and Profitec belong to the same development group under the Hauck family. The Pro 700 DRIVE and ECM Synchronika 2 OLED share the E61 group head, rotary pump, and boiler sizes. Differences lie in aesthetics (Profitec is more minimalist with OLED black, ECM is more polished), valve design, and individual detail features (heating cartridge fast heat-up in the group head on the Synchronika 2; integrated flow control ex works and fast heat-up on the DRIVE). The choice is often aesthetic.

How does the lever group of the Profitec Pro 800 work?

Instead of a pump and an E61 group, the Pro 800 uses a heavy spring lever group (7.8 kg). By lifting the lever, you tension an internal spring that pushes the brew water through the puck. The pressure curve results from the spring system – high initial pressure, falling pressure over the shot. No PID for brew pressure, no automatic shot timer, no volumetric dosing. This is a consciously manual workflow for lever enthusiasts. The Pro 800 has a 3.5 L copper steam boiler, dipper system for espresso extraction, and a subtle PID for the boiler temperature.

Where are Profitec machines produced?

Main production in Bammental near Heidelberg (Germany) – all Profitec machines except the PRO 100 GO are manufactured there. The GO is still produced in Milan (Italy). The engineering and design team are based in Germany.

What does Fast Heat-Up mean for Profitec?

Fast Heat-Up is an optimized heating cycle: The boiler is briefly heated beyond the brewing temperature so that the group head and portafilter reach operating temperature faster. After a cooling flush, the machine is ready. For the ring group models (PRO 100 GO, MOVE), the heat-up time is 5 to 9 minutes; for the E61 models with Fast Heat-Up (Pro 700 DRIVE), it is significantly faster than with classic E61 architectures, which have a heat-up time of around 20 minutes.

Which Profitec can be plumbed in?

The models with a rotary pump – Pro 700 Flowprofil and Pro 700 DRIVE – can be plumbed in (switchable between water tank and mains water). The Pro 800 can also be plumbed in. All other models use the internal water tank.

Can I see Profitec machines before buying?

Yes. Profitec models are available in the showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Not all variants are always on site at the same time – a quick inquiry, and we will bring the desired model from the warehouse.

How are Profitec machines delivered in Switzerland?

Standard shipping throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2 to 4 business days. Click and Collect in Bern and Zurich. For larger machines such as the Pro 700 DRIVE, Pro 700 Flowprofil or Pro 800, an on-site setup with assembly, mains water connection consultation and on-site introduction can be booked on request for an additional charge – a quick inquiry is sufficient. Note: The MOVE Exclusive Line is available as a pick-up variant ex works. Financing via Heylight is possible.

Roastery Tip

Profitec machines are a clear alternative to ECM and Rocket models in our showroom – different design language, different feature set. Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight run smoothly and stably on the Pro 600 or Pro 700 DRIVE – the E61 brings the classic body to the cup, and the chocolate and nutty notes are well-defined. Very Nutty for maximum body without acidity suits the minimalist PRO 400 as well as the Pro 700 DRIVE. Those experimenting with light roasts like Wild Peach particularly benefit from the DRIVE with integrated flow control – manual pre-infusion specifically extends the extraction and brings more clarity to the fruity notes. Those seeking the lever experience will find direct access with the Pro 800. One of many possibilities.

Dual Boiler Flagship

Profitec Pro 700 Flowprofil

The classic dual boiler flagship in the PRO-###-line with manual flow control. 0.75 L stainless steel brew boiler, 2 L stainless steel steam boiler, both independently PID-controlled with seconds display of flow time, E61 brew group, rotary pump (quieter than vibration pumps, plumbable), direct water connection or tank mode (3 L water tank), Flow Profile Valve at the top of the brew group for manual control of water flow during extraction, wear-resistant rotary valves, high-quality No-Burn steam and hot water wands, steam boiler can be switched on and off separately.
