Rocket R58 Tune – Dual Boiler Espresso Machine with TUNE Pressure Profiling
Three bars of pressure slowly build up. The puck is evenly saturated, blooms, begins to breathe. The display shows the seconds you've chosen. The rotary pump works quietly – the grinder next to it sounds more prominent. Then the pressure rises to nine bars, the first copper-colored drops fall into the cup. Shortly before the end, the pressure drops back to three bars. The shot ends gently, without the last bitter sip that can otherwise occur at the end of an espresso.
This is TUNE technology. And it's only one part of what makes the Rocket R58 Tune special.
Coffee Coaching Club is Rocket's partner in Switzerland. When you purchase, our private barista course (German or English, in Bern or Zurich) is included, where we introduce you to extraction and the espresso ritual.
TUNE Technology – Three Phases, One Shot
TUNE technology controls two phases of the extraction by time: the pre-infusion at the beginning and the final phase shortly before the shot ends. Both run at a fixed pressure of three bars. In between, the classic pressure curve you know from espresso remains.
The slow pre-infusion saturates the puck evenly and reduces channeling – small cracks in the coffee bed through which water shoots too quickly and extracts unevenly. The reduced final phase mitigates the bitter substances that, experience has shown, are released from the puck at the end.
This is not a promise of the perfect shot. It is an opportunity to consciously shape the aromatic time window – new with every coffee, different with every roast. Our opinion is one of many: pressure profiling is a learning process, not a button press to perfection. What the machine can do, if that appeals to you: You design the two three-bar phases, adjust them differently for various beans, and observe what the coffee does.
Communication Pod and Push-Turn Knob
Attached magnetically next to the brew group is the Communication Pod – a colored touchscreen display. Here you can read boiler temperatures, adjust them, switch between TUNE settings, and observe the integrated shot timer in real time.
Next to it is the new Push-Turn knob. Press to vent, turn to control. One movement, two functions – your morning workflow becomes calmer without losing operating comfort.
Dual Boiler, PID, and E61 Brew Group
Two independently PID-controlled boilers – one for coffee (0.58 liters), one for steam (1.8 liters). Brewing espresso and steaming milk run in parallel instead of one after another. The temperature remains constant, the workflow fluid. Anyone who regularly makes cappuccino or latte will notice this difference from day one.
The E61 brew group is the mechanical heart. It stands for thermal stability, classic design, and a design heritage that has shaped the espresso world for decades. Our opinion is one of many: Saturated brew groups, in our eyes, provide an even more refined aroma profile. But the E61 has its own class – the gentle pre-infusion through the lever, the mechanical presence, the easy-to-maintain design. Those who want an E61 want it for good reasons.
Rotary Pump and Workflow
The rotary pump operates significantly quieter than a vibration pump. Constant pressure, smooth running, long service life. You can operate the R58 Tune via the internal 1.9-liter water tank or connect it directly to a fixed water supply. Both are provided as delivered. This means it fits on a kitchen countertop as well as in a permanently installed setup.
Cool-touch wands for steam and hot water make the workflow safer. Due to the revised system, the heat-up time is about ten to fifteen minutes, depending on the ambient temperature. As with any dual boiler, a short warm-up phase with test runs helps until the aroma profile is right.
Chrome or Matte Black – Design as a Lifestyle
The R58 Tune comes in two versions. Chrome – the polished stainless steel casing that has characterized the Rocket line for decades: reflection, warmth, classic Italian workshop aesthetics. Matte Black – the monolithic version, quiet, modern, with an understated character that blends into any dark counter.
No one buys an R58 Tune because it makes measurably better espresso than other machines in this class. It is bought because it stands on the counter and conveys something – the sound of the pump in the morning, the feel of the new knob, the silence of the display before the first shot. A lifestyle that begins with the first glance and doesn't end with the first sip. Those who want it know why.

Who is the Rocket R58 Tune for?
For anyone who wants a dual boiler with honest Italian craftsmanship. For anyone who wants to prepare espresso and milk foam in parallel instead of sequentially. For anyone who wants to sensorially explore different roasts and origins with TUNE technology, without delving into complex profiling software. For anyone who appreciates the quiet sound of a rotary pump.
The R58 Tune fits perfectly into a tank operation on the kitchen countertop as well as a fixed water connected setup. It is a machine that stands in Switzerland where espresso is brewed every day – not a display piece, but a tool.
Matching Grinders, Scales, and Tampers
A machine like the R58 Tune only unfolds its character with the right periphery. For grinders, we recommend from two worlds. For those who want an affordable and precise grinder: the VS3 from our Varia Coffee Grinders. For those who want more – larger burrs, different RPM behavior, a different aroma profile – the VS6 from the same collection or the EG-1 from the Weber Workshops offer a different chapter.
For weighing and dosing: Normcore scales provide compact, precise models without app frills. Acaia scales offer flow rate display, app connectivity, and Bluetooth integration, if that appeals to you.
For tamping, the spring-loaded Normcore tamper from our Tamper Collection is a reliable companion. For those seeking a different level of feel and finesse, check out the Weber Workshops tampers from the aforementioned collection.
If you are still unsure where the R58 Tune stands among other dual boilers, our coffee machine comparison and consultation tool can help – there you will see which setups make sense in which constellation.
Shipping, Showroom, and Financing
Delivery in two to four working days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Financing possible. For higher-priced machines like the R58 Tune, we recommend pick-up at our roastery in Bern or in the Zurich Oerlikon showroom – so you can receive the machine directly and clarify any questions on site.
You can see the R58 Tune live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Since not necessarily both color variants are always available on site, a quick call during business hours or a message to office@coffeecoachingclub.ch helps if you want to see it in a specific version.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Rocket R58 Tune
What distinguishes the R58 Tune from the R Cinquantotto?
The R58 Tune is the younger generation of the Rocket dual boiler platform, revised in collaboration with the Milanese V12 Design Studio. New features include TUNE technology for timed control of pre-infusion and final phase at three bars, the magnetically attached Communication Pod with touchscreen, the new Push-Turn knob for combined operation, and a faster heating system. The core architecture remains: dual boiler, E61 brew group, rotary pump, PID.
How long is the heat-up time for the R58 Tune?
The R58 Tune is ready for brewing and steaming after about ten to fifteen minutes, depending on the ambient temperature. As with any dual boiler, a short warm-up phase with test runs helps until the brew group and aroma profile are set.
Can the R58 Tune be connected to a fixed water supply?
Yes. The R58 Tune works both via the internal 1.9-liter water tank and directly connected to a fixed water supply. The rotary pump is designed for both operating modes – it runs quietly and delivers constant pressure.
Which grinder is recommended for the Rocket R58 Tune?
For those looking for an affordable and precise grinder for the R58 Tune, the Varia VS3 is a good choice. For those who want more body, different burrs, and unique RPM behavior, look at the Varia VS6 or the Weber Workshops EG-1. Our opinion is one of many – each of these grinders has its own character and its fans.
What is the difference between Chrome and Matte Black?
Technically identical. Both versions have the same architecture, the same TUNE technology, the same brew group. The difference is design: Chrome is the polished stainless steel that has characterized the Rocket line for decades – reflection, warmth, classic Italian. Matte Black is the monolithic, understated version that blends more quietly into dark kitchens.
Can I see the Rocket R58 Tune in the showroom?
Yes. You can see the R58 Tune live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Since not all machines are always available in both showrooms simultaneously, a quick call during business hours helps if you want to see it in a specific color.
Roastery Tip
At our Coffee Coaching Club roastery, we roast with profile and openly share our observations. For those operating the R58 Tune for the first time, we believe it's best to start with our full-bodied, dense profiles: Cozy Chocolate for chocolatey notes, Nutty Delight for nutty warmth. If you're looking for maximum body without acidity, go for Very Nutty. And if you want to experiment with TUNE technology, the fruity Wild Peach offers a lively profile where pre-infusion and the final phase are particularly noticeable. Our recommendation is one of many – any bean that brings you joy is the right one.
