Zuriga E2 vs. Profitec GO 2.0

Zuriga E2 vs. Profitec GO 2.0 – two compact single-circuit machines compared

Some machines change a room before they've even made a single espresso. A small housing in polished stainless steel next to the coffee tin, or that same housing in bold yellow or light blue – colour and material decide how a kitchen feels long before the first sip arrives. It's precisely in this compact segment, where an espresso machine takes up barely more room than a kettle, that the Zuriga E2 from Zürich has made a name for itself – a design object in stainless steel and walnut, with a water tank made of laboratory glass that's more reminiscent of a chemistry lab than a kitchen.

If you've been searching for the E2: here at Coffee Coaching Club, we don't currently carry it in our range. What we offer instead plays in the same league – a compact single-circuit machine that takes up just as little counter space, but comes from a German manufactory and is available in five colours: the Profitec GO 2.0. Two very different characters answering the same question – how much machine does a truly good espresso at home really need?

Thick-film heater vs. ring group head – two paths to fast espresso

The E2 heats its water on demand, directly during extraction, via a compact thick-film heater – which is why it's ready to use in around two minutes, faster than almost any other espresso machine. The Profitec GO 2.0 takes the more classic approach: a brass boiler with a 0.3-litre capacity and a ring group head that distributes the brew water evenly around the portafilter before it passes through the coffee. At around seven minutes, that takes longer, but it delivers the thermal mass that keeps the temperature stable across several shots – similar to a saturated group head, just built more compactly. In our roastery, we observe that ring group heads deliver a pleasantly honest, immediate flavour profile, precisely because the water's path is short and direct. Other roasters weigh this differently. Our opinion is just one of many.

The bigger difference may lie not in the heating system but in the control. The E2 sets its brew temperature at the factory to a fixed 93 °C, with no external adjustment – reduced, uncomplicated, one button and you're done. The GO 2.0 puts the temperature for coffee and steam precisely in your hands via PID control and an OLED display, plus a shot timer, an optional pre-infusion, and an expansion valve that lets you adjust brew pressure to your own taste. Neither approach is more correct than the other. Espresso is complex, but it's not rocket science – and every shot is unique anyway, because the bean, the humidity, and you yourself change from day to day. Anyone looking for absolute reproducibility won't find it with either machine. That's not a limitation. That's the part that's fun.

Almost equally small, dressed completely differently

In terms of dimensions, the two are closer than you might expect given how different their designs are: the E2 measures around 17 × 23 × 31 cm, while the GO 2.0 comes in at 21 × 36 × 38 cm without the portafilter – noticeably but not dramatically more, especially given the larger 2.8-litre water tank and the full steam system the GO 2.0 brings along. When it comes to colour, the two characters part ways for good: the E2 sticks to understated stainless steel, while the GO 2.0 comes in black, yellow, red, light blue or satin – technically identical, but each colour makes a different statement on the counter. Nobody needs a yellow espresso machine. But anyone who wants one knows exactly why, just like someone who orders a Bentley in racing green, not because the car goes any faster, but because it says something about the moment they get in. That decision is just as legitimate as choosing understated stainless steel. We respect both, without trying to sell you on either.

Who is the Profitec GO 2.0 for

If what you valued most about the Zuriga E2 was its radical simplicity – one button, no menus, ready to go as fast as possible – you'll experience the GO 2.0 as a small step towards more control, not a step backwards: an OLED display instead of no display at all, but still a single-circuit machine, still one that fits into any small kitchen. For anyone who additionally wants a noticeably bigger step up – dual boiler, app control, the signature of a commercial brand since 1927 – it's worth looking at the La Marzocco Linea Micra, which we've also compared directly with the Zuriga E2.

The GO 2.0 can be ordered directly from us, not just on request. It's on display in our showrooms in Bern and Zürich, is delivered throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein, and financing is also available. A private barista course isn't automatically included with the GO 2.0, but can be booked as an add-on – unlike with our dual-boiler machines, where it's included in the purchase price. That's also part of the honest calculation: a compact single-circuit machine means somewhat less automatically included service in places, but a lower entry point into the world of espresso machines.

The grinder has at least as much influence as the machine itself – pre-ground coffee loses in minutes what the bean built up in flavour over months. For anyone who wants a reliable, affordable grinder: Varia coffee grinders, which we import directly into Switzerland, or a hand grinder like the Comandante. If you're after more precision and single dosing: Weber Workshops. For prepping the puck, a tamper is worth it – affordable and reliable from Normcore, or as a statement piece from Weber Workshops. You'll find more on all our machines in our espresso machine comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Zuriga E2 available at Coffee Coaching Club?

No, the Zuriga E2 isn't currently part of our range. This page honestly compares it with what we offer instead in the same compact segment.

What's the main difference between the Zuriga E2 and the Profitec GO 2.0?

The E2 heats up via a thick-film heater in around two minutes, with a fixed brew temperature. The GO 2.0 has a brass single-circuit boiler with a ring group head, PID control and an OLED display, but takes around seven minutes to become ready to use.

Can I see the Profitec GO 2.0 before buying?

Yes. The GO 2.0 is on display in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) – all five colours to see in person.

Where can I buy the Profitec GO 2.0 in Switzerland?

At Coffee Coaching Club – a Profitec partner and coffee roastery in one. Directly via coffeecoachingclub.ch, at our showrooms in Bern and Zürich, or by phone during business hours.

Is a barista course included when buying the GO 2.0?

Not automatically. A private barista course can be booked as an add-on, but it isn't included in the purchase price with the GO 2.0 the way it is with our dual-boiler machines.

What's included with the GO 2.0?

Single and double portafilter baskets (7 g, 14 g, 21 g), a blind filter, a tamper, a cleaning brush, a water filter cartridge, test strips and the instruction manual.

Does Coffee Coaching Club have a bigger alternative with more features?

Yes, the La Marzocco Linea Micra is a dual boiler with a saturated group head and app control – a clear step up, both technically and in budget.

Roastery tip

With a single-circuit machine that has a shorter pre-infusion time, a bean's sweetness comes through especially directly in the cup – for the GO 2.0, we like to reach for Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight, both dense, aromatic, with a chocolatey sweetness that shines even without long temperature stabilisation. For maximum body without any acidity, Very Nutty is worth trying. And for the curious: Wild Peach shows just how vivid and fruity an espresso can be – a discovery on the side, not the main promise. That's our recommendation, one of many.
