Why the Acaia Orbit is special
As a coffee roastery, we have a clear opinion: The Orbit is the first grinder that truly understands that grinding is more than just "crushing beans." It's a smart system that communicates with your Lunar scale (optional) and stops automatically when the target weight is reached. Without the Lunar, it's an excellent single-dosing coffee grinder.
But that's just the beginning. The Orbit utilizes Acaia's proprietary RPM Stability Control Technology – a system that maintains a constant motor speed, regardless of the bean load. In conventional grinders, the RPM increases when there are fewer beans in the system. This leads to noise, heat, and inconsistent particle distribution. The Orbit fundamentally solves this problem.
The Orbit was developed in collaboration with Weber Workshops – inspired by the legendary EG-1 . Acaia is solely responsible for the Orbit (technology, manufacturing, support), but Weber's input during development is noticeable: Burr alignment, low retention design, easy cleaning – all core principles of the EG-1.

Grind-by-Weight: The Future of Single-Dosing
The Orbit works seamlessly with the Acaia Lunar . You set your target weight (e.g., 18.5g), press start, and the Orbit grinds automatically until exactly that weight is reached. No pre-weighing of the beans, no over- or under-dosing.
In practice, this means: beans directly from the bean cellar into the hopper, Orbit starts, grinds, and stops at 18.5g. Done. This saves time, reduces waste, and ensures consistency in every shot.
The Orbit supports single-dose and batch modes. Single-dose mode is for home baristas (18-20g), while batch mode is ideal for cafes or when pulling multiple shots in succession. Auto start/stop works in both modes.
Burr options: Mazzer, SSP Multi-Purpose, SSP Lab Sweet V3
The Orbit is available with three burr options. All use 64mm flat burrs, but with different geometries:
Mazzer 33M: Classic espresso burrs. Excellent for traditional profiles with body and sweetness. Works with lighter roasts, but the sweet spot is with medium to dark roasts like Cozy Chocolate or Very Nutty .
SSP Multi-Purpose: High-Clarity Burrs. Ideal for modern espresso styles and light filter coffees. Minimal fines, maximum consistency. Perfect for Wild Peach – the fruity notes come through cleanly.
SSP Lab Sweet V3: Balance Champion. Originally developed for filter coffee, now also suitable for espresso. Sweeter cups, broad brewing spectrum. The all-rounder for those who make both espresso and pour-over.
Companion App: Customization on a new level
The Orbit Companion App (iOS/Android) puts control on your smartphone. You can:

- Use reverse-and-adjust (rotate burrs backwards for easy switching between filter and espresso)

Do I need the Lunar for the orbit?
No, but it's what makes the Orbit truly smart. Without the Lunar, you can grind based on time (works well). With the Lunar, you grind based on weight (perfect, every time). The Lunar is sold separately.
Which Burr option should I choose?
Mazzer 33M for classic espresso profiles. SSP Multi-Purpose for high clarity and light roasts. SSP Lab Sweet V3 for a balance between espresso and filter coffee. We recommend the SSP Multi-Purpose for most users – versatile, precise, and modern.
Orbit or Weber EG-1 ?
The EG-1 has 80mm burrs (higher throughput, greater clarity) and is more expensive. The Orbit has 64mm burrs, integrated grind-by-weight technology, and is more compact. For home baristas who want smart single-dosing: Orbit. For purists who want maximum burr size: EG-1.
Can I use the Orbit without the app?
Yes. The 3 button presets also work without the app. But the app is what makes the Orbit truly flexible – RPM profiles, reverse-and-adjust, grind-by-weight targets. We recommend using the app.
Is the Orbit quiet?
Yes. Thanks to RPM Stability Control and a 200W brushless motor, it's significantly quieter than conventional grinders. No shrill whistling, but a constant, deep hum.
