Ascaso Barista T PLUS 2023 – Multi-Group Commercial Machine

It's half past ten in the morning, the first rush is over. Orders are slowing down, the rhythm returning to a calm pace. The machine has been running for five and a half hours, the hand finds the side steam lever without looking. Three seconds, a small turn, done. On the second group, the next shot is running simultaneously, programmed for weeks at nine bar and ninety degrees – because that's exactly what this bean needs. The Barista T PLUS 2023 doesn't put on a show. It does its job.

What defines this machine

The Barista T PLUS is Ascaso's compact multi-group line – T-technology like the larger Big Dream T, but packaged in a footprint of 700 mm width in the 2-group standard version. Each brewing group has an independent heating circuit and its own PID control of plus/minus 0.1 degrees. The steam boiler operates separately, providing constant pressure even with parallel use of both groups. The entire water circuit runs in AISI-316 stainless steel – no metallic taste in the cup, not now and not in ten years.

Thermal insulation on brewing groups and steam boiler, an extra heating element per group, an anti-splash system, and boiler insulation are all standard features on the T PLUS 2023. This is what distinguishes it as a T-PLUS variant from the narrower Barista T One line. The side steam levers remain the ergonomic hallmark – shorter hand movements than front rotary knobs, faster workflow when two baristas work in parallel.

Configurations

The Barista T PLUS 2023 is available in four configurations, and which one you choose depends on what your counter looks like and what you need. Standard versions are usually deliverable within 2 weeks. For some models, production is commissioned and specially produced upon receipt of payment.

1-Group in White with Wood – End-of-life model, while stocks last. For very small counters, pop-up concepts, studio cafes, or concept stores with low volume. T-technology in its most compact variant.

2-Group Standard (700 × 475 × 535 mm) – the classic for medium-sized cafes and bistros. Full steam boiler with 8.5 liters, two steam wands for parallel frothing, familiar professional footprint.

2-Group COMPACT (560 × 475 × 535 mm) – the same functionality as the standard version, but 140 mm narrower. The compromise: smaller steam boiler with 4.5 liters instead of 8.5. For cafes with limited counter space, hotel bars, small bakeries – anywhere where every centimeter counts and the reduced steam boiler is sufficient because parallel milk frothing rarely reaches its limits.

3-Group (920 × 475 × 535 mm) – for higher throughput, multiple baristas working in parallel, peak times with long queues. Three independent brewing groups, three profiles can be run simultaneously.

Who it's for

The Barista T PLUS 2023 is the direct, tactile version of the T-PLUS line. If you work with a fixed coffee bean menu – one house blend, perhaps a second seasonal bean, that's it – you don't need the 2024 model's display every day. The five presets per group are also programmable here, just via buttons and a rotary knob instead of touch. Once properly set, the machine runs the same profile for months.

For a café with a loyal customer base, a bistro with a classic espresso menu, a hotel bar with a house blend in the foreground – this is the honest choice. Less electronics, fewer potential service points, the same T-technology at its core. If you want quick profile changes across several beans a day, you'll be better off with the T PLUS 2024 or Big Dream T. Our opinion is one of many.

The COMPACT variant is the answer for anyone who needs two brewing groups but doesn't have 700 mm of counter space. At 560 mm wide, it fits between the cash register and the sink where the standard version would hit. The smaller steam boiler (4.5 instead of 8.5 liters) is perfectly adequate for most smaller café scenarios.

Feel free to visit us in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) or Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Commercial machines of this class are not always permanently in the showroom – with a few days' notice, we'll ensure the machine is actually on site when you arrive.

What you need with it

A classically operated machine pairs well with a classically designed grinder. From our Mahlkönig Collection, we recommend the E64 WS or the E65 GbS for the 2-group T PLUS – grind by weight, precise to the tenth of a gram, robust burrs for daily continuous operation without digital frills. For the 3-group variant with higher throughput, the E80 GbS is worthwhile.

If you prefer single-dose, because beans change or freshness is the highest priority, you'll find the Mazzer Mini G GBW in the Grinder Hub – compact, reliable, with a clearly defined grinder – or the Mahlkönig X64 SD for classic single-dose grinding without display gimmicks.

For scales, a professional level is recommended: The Acaia Pearl S or Lunar provides real-time flow rate display – the bridge between analog machine operation and digital recipe control. Anyone who wants to document and reproduce shots cannot do without it.

For cleaning materials, the usual applies: Urnex Cafiza for daily backflush without detergent and one with every few days. Five minutes of effort, significantly longer seal life.

And the water – a large part of an espresso is water, the ideal mineral content of 50–100 mg/l fundamentally changes the aroma profile. With Brita filtration or Apax Labs mineralization drops, the profile can be precisely adjusted. With a fixed water connection, this arrives in every cup every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I buy the Ascaso Barista T PLUS 2023 in Switzerland?

Directly from the Coffee Coaching Club – Ascaso's partner in Switzerland. Order via the shop or in person at the showroom in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) or Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Delivery throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

How does the T PLUS 2023 differ from the T PLUS 2024?

The 2024 version has a Capacitive Display for direct access to all parameters, additional tube insulation on brewing group and steam boiler pipes, an illuminated Rear Logo, and the Inox-Rail-Custom mounting. The 2023 model is operated classically via rotary knobs and a pointer manometer. Both have the same T-technology, the same five presets per group, the same boiler insulation and thermal insulation as standard. If you don't need the display, the 2023 model is a good choice.

What is the difference between Standard and COMPACT?

The COMPACT variant is 560 mm wide instead of 700 mm – so 140 mm narrower – and has a smaller steam boiler with 4.5 liters instead of 8.5 liters. Otherwise functionally and mechanically identical. For smaller cafes with limited counter space and moderate milk frothing, this is the more compact choice.

The 1-group version is marked as an end-of-life model – what does that mean?

The 1-Group Barista T PLUS 2023 (White with Wood) is no longer newly produced by the manufacturer. It is available while stocks last – we will check specific availability with Ascaso upon request. For most cafes, the 2-Group is relevant anyway.

What special equipment is available?

Light with customer logo for individual branding on the front and raised groups with 12.5 cm cup height for latte macchiato cups. Both can be ordered directly as factory adjustments in the Ascaso Special Equipment. For special requests, write to us at office@coffeecoachingclub.ch.

Can I see the machine live before buying?

Come visit us in Bern or Zurich. Commercial machines of this class are not always permanently in the showroom – with a few days' notice, we'll ensure the machine is on site.

From the Roastery

If your menu is set and your house roast remains consistent, you'll get the full potential from the Barista T PLUS 2023 with a dense, well-balanced bean. Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight – both full-bodied, with a distinct chocolate note and a long finish. Exactly what the majority of cafe guests look for in an espresso cup and what keeps them coming back. For regular customers who appreciate maximum body without acidity, a second group with Very Nutty is worthwhile. And for seasonal curiosity, Wild Peach has its place. Beans are a personal matter; our recommendation is one of many.
