Since 1932, Anfim has done one thing: espresso grinders. No machines, no capsule systems, no diversification. Founded in Milan, the heart of Italian espresso culture, the company remained focused on the same craft for over nine decades. In 1981, Mario Monfrini took over the business and renamed it A.N.F.I.M. (Apparecchiature Nazionali Fabbrica Impianti Macinini). The first grinder of this era was named "Caimano" – after Monfrini's father, a Milanese coffee roaster.
Since 2012, Anfim has been part of the Swiss Hemro Group, the conglomerate behind Mahlkönig, Ditting, and HeyCafé. Thus, there are indirect connections with Bentwood (see same corporate background about the founder). In 2022, Anfim underwent a complete rebranding and simultaneously opened a new factory in Milan – production and showroom are located directly next to each other.
Two things stand out in every Anfim model: the low motor speed and the Italian-made flat steel burrs. Low RPM means less friction heat in the grinding mechanism – the beans are cut rather than pulverized, and the ground coffee retains more essential oils. In café settings, where several hundred shots are pulled throughout the day, this makes an audible difference in the cup.
Anfim consciously positions itself price-wise between mass manufacturers and absolute premium brands. For those looking for a reliable professional tool for a smaller café operation or a demanding home setup, without moving into the 5,000 CHF league, Anfim offers a good middle ground.
The Anfim Luna is the brand's grind-by-weight grinder. 65mm flat steel burrs, integrated industrial scale, intuitive touchscreen, on-demand grinding directly into the portafilter. For small bistros and ambitious home baristas who prioritize precise dosing over manual adjustment of time values. At just under 1,150 CHF, it is one of the more accessible grind-by-weight solutions on the market.
The Anfim Alba is the faster, more powerful variant – designed for medium to high café volumes. With approximately 6 grams of grinding capacity per second and also an integrated scale, it delivers the speed a barista needs during service. At around 2,160 CHF, the Alba clearly positions itself between home-professional grinders and 3-phase commercial machines.
If you want an Italian professional grinder that has been doing the same thing for 90 years – espresso grinders with reliable grind quality, without excessive feature inflation. Anfim is particularly suitable if you are planning a small cafe or an office coffee setup and need a robust tool that can run for several hours daily. Many customers combine an Anfim Luna with a Quick Mill or Bezzera espresso machine – how you use it is up to you.
You can see the Anfim models in live operation in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) and compare them with Eureka, Mazzer, and Mahlkönig grinders. Since 1932 in Milan. This makes Anfim one of the oldest espresso grinder manufacturers in the world. In 1981, Mario Monfrini took over the company and gave it the name A.N.F.I.M., by which it is known today.
Since 2012, Anfim has been part of the Hemro Group, the Swiss conglomerate that also includes Mahlkönig, Ditting, and HeyCafé. Production remains in Milan – with a new factory opened directly in the city in 2022.
Low RPM (revolutions per minute) means less friction heat in the grinding mechanism. The beans are cut instead of pulverized, and the ground coffee retains more aromas. This makes an audible difference in the cup in high-volume café settings throughout the day.
Both have integrated industrial scales and touchscreens. The Luna (CHF 1,149.95) has 65mm burrs and is designed for small café and home setups. The Alba (CHF 2,159.95) is the professional version with higher grinding capacity, intended for medium to high café volumes.
No. Anfim exclusively builds espresso grinders. This has been the brand's sole specialization since 1932 – and is part of its identity.
Yes, in our showrooms in Bern and Zurich Oerlikon. We grind the same bean through Luna, Eureka Atom, and Mahlkönig E65S – you decide which grind you like best.
