While the CPU Board handles control and programming, the Motor Board regulates the actual drive – speed, start-up behaviour, the force that reaches the conical burrs. A fault here usually shows up directly at the motor: unusual noises, uneven running, or a motor that no longer starts at all.
Brushless induction motors run without carbon brushes, need little maintenance and last a long time – but driving this type of motor requires its own electronics. That is exactly the task the Motor Board, designated MG-EG, takes on. If the grinder runs unevenly, stops mid-dose, or the motor no longer reacts at all, the cause often lies here rather than in the burrs themselves.

For anyone with a Pico whose motor is making unusual noises, running unevenly, or no longer starting at all. It's an electronic component inside the grinder – we recommend having it installed through our service.
You'll find the grinder directly in our coffee grinder collection, where you'll also find the La Marzocco Pico itself. For precise dosing, our coffee scales are ideal – compact and reliable with Normcore, or with app connection and flow-rate display with Acaia. Find more about your setup in our La Marzocco Collection.
Typical signs are unusual running noises, a motor that runs unevenly, or a motor that no longer starts at all.
That's La Marzocco's internal model designation for this Motor Board. If you're unsure whether it fits your Pico, our team is happy to help.
This is an electronic component inside the grinder. We recommend having it installed through our service, so the motor runs reliably afterwards.
Yes, you can experience the original spare part live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).

A motor that starts up calm and full again deserves a coffee with substance too. Our main recommendation: Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, dense, aromatic, full-bodied. For maximum body with no acidity at all: Very Nutty. For anyone who wants to discover a fruity experience: Wild Peach, vibrant and always a discovery. Our recommendation from the roastery, one of many.
