Cozy Nut – Rich Chocolate-Hazelnut Espresso Blend, Italian Style

The first sip is warm and dense. Chocolate settles on the tongue, roasted hazelnut right behind it, and the crema sits so creamy in the cup that it holds the spoon for a moment. There's nothing to explain – you just drink.

That's exactly what this blend is made for: a full, round, chocolatey-nutty espresso, just like you know it from an Italian bar. Rich, with dense crema. Roasted by us in the coffee roastery, where Yalcin, our chemist and aroma developer, developed the profile.

Where chocolate meets nut

This blend brings together, in equal parts, two coffees that many of you reach for anyway. From Brazil comes the Cozy Chocolate, a natural from Minas Gerais – the coffee cherries dry with their fruit in the sun, and that's exactly what gives the full, velvety body and the notes of cocoa and dark chocolate.

From India comes the Very Nutty, a bold robusta from the highlands of Karnataka and Kerala. It brings the nutty depth, a dense, voluminous crema and very low acidity. Together, the two create an espresso that is at once sweet, dense and calm.

This high share of bold robusta isn't a coincidence – it's the style many know from Italian bars. There, exactly this combination gives the dense, stable crema and the rich body, while the Brazilian arabica contributes the chocolatey sweetness. A blend that tastes like classic Italian espresso.

What you experience as aroma happens largely in the nose: as you swallow, the aroma compounds rise retronasally to the olfactory membrane – coffee carries more than 800 of them. Temperature plays a role in what dissolves: brewed hotter brings more body, a little cooler makes the picture more layered. A nice field to explore.

Who this blend is made for

If you like dense, chocolatey-nutty espresso that sits rich in the cup and shows barely any acidity, this is your blend. Pulled straight, it's round and sweet; as a base for cappuccino, flat white or milk coffee, the nutty notes carry beautifully through the milk.

Whether you've been pulling espresso for twenty years or just picked out your first grinder – with us there's no espresso police and no right or wrong. We think in weight ratios; an espresso around 1:2 is a good starting point, the rest follows your taste. And because the bean, the humidity and you yourself change daily, no shot is quite like the next. That's exactly the beauty of it.

Nobody needs this blend. Either you want it – or you don't. Both are fine, and our recommendation is always just one among many.

Freshly ground, it tastes best

Its body comes through best when you grind right before brewing – particle size and its consistency determine how evenly the aromas extract. For a grinder that's affordable and precise, take a look at the Varia coffee grinders or a compact hand grinder. If you're after more repeatability and room to play, the larger models in our coffee grinders are worth a look.

If you like working precisely to the gram, the Normcore scales are compact, precise and reliable. If you also want to watch the flow rate live and log it via app, you'll find that with the Acaia scales – not sure what fits your setup? Our coffee machine advisor tool helps you sort it out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sets Cozy Nut apart from Cozy Chocolate and Very Nutty individually?

On its own, Cozy Chocolate emphasises the chocolatey, round sweetness from Brazil, while Very Nutty plays with nutty depth and low acidity from India. In the 50/50 blend, the two meet: chocolate up front, nut behind it, carried by a denser crema than either bean builds alone – the rich character of a classic Italian espresso.

Why does the blend taste so Italian?

Italian espresso blends traditionally combine Brazilian arabica with a bold share of robusta. The robusta brings the dense, stable crema and the full body, the arabica the sweetness and chocolate. This exact ratio shows up again in Cozy Nut.

Does the blend work for espresso and for milk drinks?

Both. Pulled straight, the blend is dense and sweet. In milk, the nutty and chocolatey notes carry through especially well, which is why it works beautifully as a base for cappuccino, flat white or latte. It also does well in a French press or a super-automatic.

Which grind size works for espresso?

For espresso, you grind fine. As a guideline, pull around a 1:2 ratio – double the cup weight relative to the ground coffee – and adjust from there to your taste. Time is a side effect here, not the goal. Ground fresh right before pulling, it tastes fullest.

How is the coffee delivered, and can I experience it in person?

Ordering is easy online, and delivery takes 2–4 business days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can also experience the blend live and pick it up directly.

Cozy Nut came from a simple observation: Cozy Chocolate and Very Nutty are what many of you reach for anyway, so we brought them together in equal parts – fully in the spirit of Italian espresso tradition. The Brazilian natural gives the chocolatey sweetness, the Indian robusta the nutty depth and the dense crema. If you love full body with absolutely no acidity, stick with Very Nutty on its own. And if you're in the mood for something fruity, discover our Wild Peach. As always, this is just our recommendation – one among many.
