Rocket R58 Tune – Dual Boiler Espresso Machine with TUNE Pressure Profiling

Three bar builds up slowly. The puck saturates evenly, blooms, begins to breathe. On the display, the seconds you chose yourself tick by. The rotary pump works quietly – the grinder next to it sounds more present. Then the pressure climbs to nine bar, the first drops fall copper-coloured into the cup. Just before the end, the pressure drops back to three bar. The shot finishes gently, without that last bitter sip that can otherwise show up at the end of an espresso.

That's TUNE technology. And it's only part of what makes the Rocket R58 Tune what it is.

TUNE technology – three phases, one shot

TUNE technology times two phases of the extraction: the pre-infusion at the start and the final phase just before the shot ends. Both run at a fixed pressure of three bar. In between, the classic pressure curve you know from espresso stays untouched.

The slow pre-infusion saturates the puck evenly and reduces channeling – small cracks in the coffee bed that let water shoot through too fast and extract unevenly. The lowered final phase softens the bitter compounds that, as experience shows, tend to release from the puck towards the end.

This isn't a promise of the perfect shot. It's a way to shape the aromatic window deliberately – newly with every coffee, differently with every roast. Our opinion is one among many: pressure profiling is a learning process, not a button press to perfection. What the machine can do, if that appeals to you: you shape the two three-bar phases, pull them differently for different beans, and watch what the coffee does.

Communication Pod and Push-Turn knob

Magnetically mounted next to the brew group sits the Communication Pod – a colour touchscreen display. Here you read off boiler temperatures, adjust them, switch between TUNE settings, and watch the built-in shot timer in real time.

Next to it, the new Push-Turn knob. Press to purge, turn to control. One movement, two functions – the morning workflow gets calmer without losing any ease of use.

Dual boiler, PID and E61 brew group

Two independently PID-controlled boilers – one for coffee (0.58 litres), one for steam (1.8 litres). Brewing espresso and steaming milk run in parallel instead of one after the other. The temperature stays constant, the workflow flows. If cappuccino or latte is a regular thing for you, this difference is noticeable from day one.

The E61 brew group is the mechanical heart of the machine. It stands for thermal stability, classic construction, and a design legacy that has shaped the espresso world for decades. Our opinion is one among many: in our view, saturated brew groups deliver an even more refined aromatic picture. But the E61 has a class of its own – the calm pre-infusion through the lever, the mechanical presence, the maintenance-friendly build. If you want an E61, you want it for good reasons.

Rotary pump and workflow

The rotary pump runs noticeably quieter than a vibration pump. Constant pressure, smooth running, long lifespan. The R58 Tune can run from its internal 1.9-litre water tank or connect directly to a fixed water line. Both are supported out of the box. That makes it fit on the kitchen counter just as well as in a permanently plumbed setup.

Cool-touch wands for steam and hot water make the workflow safer. Thanks to the reworked system, heat-up time is around ten to fifteen minutes, depending on ambient temperature. As with any dual boiler, a short warm-up phase with a few practice pulls helps until the aromatic profile settles in.

Chrome or matte black – design as a feeling

The R58 Tune comes in two finishes. Chrome – the polished stainless steel casing that has shaped the Rocket line for decades: reflection, warmth, classic Italian workshop aesthetics. Matte black – the monolithic version, calm, modern, with an understated character that blends into any dark counter.

Nobody buys an R58 Tune because it makes measurably better espresso than other machines in this class. It gets bought because it stands on the counter and conveys something – the sound of the pump in the morning, the feel of the new knob, the quiet of the display before the first shot. A feeling that begins with the first glance and doesn't stop at the first sip. If you want it, you know why.
