How long has Acaia been around?
Development began in 2013, and the company was founded in 2014. Acaia doesn't name a single headquarters clearly: the terms and conditions list an address in Cupertino, California, while the trade register shows a company registered in Taipei.
Which Acaia scales are currently available?
Available are the Lunar, Pyxis Black, Umbra, Umbra Duo and the new Cosmo. The Pearl and Pearl Model S were last listed as sold out.
What's the difference between the Lunar and the Pearl?
Size and purpose. The Lunar measures 105 × 105 × 15 millimetres and is built for the drip tray under the brew group - water-resistant anodised aluminium, with a warranty covering water damage. The Pearl measures 160 × 160 × 32 millimetres and is designed for pour-over.
How precisely do the scales weigh?
Both go up to 2000 grams. The Lunar shows 0.1 grams by default and 0.01 grams in high-resolution mode. The Pearl shows 0.1 grams, and 0.5 grams from 1000 grams upward.
How fast do they respond?
Acaia doesn't state exact response times in milliseconds, nor an IP protection rating. Anyone citing such numbers is reading a retailer's own claims.
Does Acaia also make grinders?
Yes, the Orbit: a 64 millimetre flat burr set, 200 watt brushless motor, 600 to 1500 RPM, stepless, Bluetooth 5.0 and Grind by Weight via the Lunar. Burr choices include Mazzer 33M, SSP Multi-Purpose and SSP Lab Sweet V3.
Do I really need a scale for espresso?
