Frequently Asked Questions about Flair Espresso
Which Flair models are currently available?
Flair 58 Plus 2, Flair 49 PRO, Flair Classic, Flair 2GO and Flair NEO Flex. The PRO 2 is no longer in the lineup, and neither are the Flair 58, 58+ and 58x.
Does a Flair need electricity?
No. All models are manual lever presses with no pump. Only the Flair 58 Plus 2 uses electricity, and only for the preheating control on the brew head.
How do you build up the pressure?
Through the lever. The pressure comes from your arm, transmitted through the lever mechanism – and a gauge shows you exactly where you are in real time. Every model comes standard with a pressure gauge.
What portafilter diameter do the models have?
The 2GO and Classic both have 40 millimetres, the 49 PRO has 49 millimetres, and the 58 Plus 2 has a full 58 millimetres. Only the 58 Plus 2 fits standard 58mm accessories.
Can I froth milk with it?
Not with the machine itself – it has no steam wand. Flair offers separate frothers for that, including the electric eWizard.
How hot does the water need to be?
You pour it in yourself, so you decide. In practice, you start around 93 degrees and work from there in whichever direction suits your roast.
Do I need a good grinder for it?
Yes, even more so than with a pump machine. Because you're building the pressure yourself, a manual lever machine forgives uneven grind size even less. Between a bigger Flair model and a better grinder, the grinder is almost always the smarter choice.
Who is a Flair not for?
For anyone who needs to be out the door in four minutes in the morning. Heating water, preheating, grinding, tamping, pulling the shot, disassembling, rinsing – it's a ritual, not the push of a button.
