WPM ZP-1 – Single Dose Coffee Grinder with 64mm Flat Burrs

The cool, matte surface under your fingers. The magnetic click of the dosing cup as it finds its position with precision. And then a velvety whir – controlled, powerful, almost quiet. That's the moment you notice there's more happening here than just grinding.

The ZP-1 is the grinder with which WPM entered the Single-Dose segment. Italian-made 64mm flat burrs, a brushless DC motor with ten RPM settings, stepless grind size adjustment. A grinder that shows its strengths in the cup – not on the spec sheet.

Italian-made 64mm flat burrs

The burrs come from Italy and deliver a consistent grind across the whole spectrum – from fine espresso to coarse French press. Consistent particle size means consistent extraction. Water finds fewer detours, the aromatic window opens more cleanly, body builds up more stable. That's not magic, that's geometry and fluid dynamics. Burr sets are like engines in cars – subjective, there's no single best. Our observation: flat burrs of this size deliver a clarity in filter coffee and a defined aromatic profile in espresso that many people love.

Stepless grind size adjustment and ten RPM settings

The ZP-1 does without clicks or notches – you turn the adjustment ring and the burrs move continuously, no jumps, no dead zones. That opens up the finest corrections for espresso and turns the switch to pour-over or French press into a simple twist.

On top of that, a brushless DC motor with ten selectable RPM settings between 600 and 1300 revolutions per minute. Higher RPM tends to produce more body, lower RPM protects delicate compounds and can reveal more complexity. Which setting you like best is decided by your palate – not a chart. Understanding pressure and RPM is a learning process, not a button for perfection.

At the end of the grinding cycle, a Booster-Button delivers a brief RPM boost that pushes the last crumbs through the grinding chamber. Combined with the Chute Knocker, retention stays very low. Anyone who wants to fine-tune the workflow further can add a Bellow as an optional accessory – from WPM itself or a universal one.

Workflow without the crumb battle

The dosing cup finds its position magnetically and fits directly onto 58mm portafilters. The Chute Knocker taps the last particles out of the chute. Anti-Static technology reduces clumping and static on the counter. Switching beans with minimal flushing effort – that's Single Dose as it's meant to be.

Tool-free disassembly keeps cleaning short – you take out the upper burr, brush out the chamber, and put it back. No Allen keys, no screws, no fear of throwing the burrs out of alignment.

SSP-compatible – upgrade path included

Straight from the factory, the ZP-1 is prepared for a separate Burr Holder that makes switching to SSP burrs possible. Anyone who wants to explore a different aromatic profile later – Multi-Purpose, Cast, High-Uniformity – can swap the burrs without leaving the grinder behind. A detail that only pays off over months, but keeps its value over years. The matching Burr Holder is included in delivery.

Who the ZP-1 is made for

The ZP-1 is for anyone who wants to take Single Dose seriously without stepping into boutique price territory. For people who switch at home between espresso, V60 and French press and want a grinder that handles all three – without effort and waste exploding. No budget is only a starting point, and expensive equipment isn't automatically better. The ZP-1 sits in a place where many coffee lovers end up: serious, curious, but pragmatic. Nobody needs it. Whoever wants it knows why.

Buying this grinder from us makes you part of the Coffee Coaching Club. Not as a customer, but as part of a community that shares coffee – experiences, observations, beans. Our opinion is one of many, and we're glad to get to know yours.

What goes with it

The ZP-1 shows its full strength as part of a setup. On the machine side, models from our Coffee Machines Collection fit well – from the single-boiler world of ECM espresso machines to the Profitec machines up to the Portuguese dual boilers from the Arkel Collection. For anyone who wants to make the jump to a saturated group head, La Marzocco is worth a visit.

When it comes to scales: for anyone who wants to start out precise and affordable, the Normcore Collection is the right place. Anyone who wants flow-rate display and app integration reaches for the Acaia Collection.

The same logic applies to puck preparation. Affordable and good: Normcore for tamper, WDT tool, Puck Screen, Tamping Station and dosing cup. Anyone looking for maximum processing: Weber Workshops. Both paths are legitimate. Nobody needs the pricier option – you either want it or you don't.

Anyone still looking for clarity on the right machine will find it in our coffee machine comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see the WPM ZP-1 before buying?

Yes, you'll find the ZP-1 in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) – experience it live, hold it, run through the workflow. Not every variant is always on site; availability can usually be arranged within one to three days.

Which burrs does the ZP-1 have?

The ZP-1 works with 64mm flat burrs made in Italy. The grind is consistent and suits the full range from espresso to French press.

Is the ZP-1 only suited for espresso?

No. The stepless adjustment and the ten RPM settings cover all common brew methods – espresso, moka, AeroPress, V60, Chemex, French press. The ZP-1 is a Single-Dose grinder for the whole household, not for a single basket.

What's the difference between the ZP-1 Black and Silver?

Functionally identical. Same burrs, same motor, same workflow, same dimensions. The difference is purely visual: matte black or matte silver. The choice is a question of your kitchen and your taste.

Is a Bellow included in delivery?

No. Included in delivery are the grinder, the hopper lid, a dosing cup (58mm), the Burr Holder for SSP burrs, a cleaning brush, plus a silicone cover and silicone chute extension. A Bellow can be added as an accessory for anyone who wants to fine-tune the workflow further.

Can I install SSP burrs later?

Yes. The ZP-1 is SSP-compatible, and the Burr Holder needed for it is included in delivery, so you can swap the burrs as soon as you want to develop your aromatic profile further.

How loud is the ZP-1 in everyday use?

The ZP-1 runs on a brushless DC motor. Brushless DC motors are technically quieter than classic AC motors with carbon brushes. How that feels in your kitchen depends on placement, surface and personal perception – you experience it best at our showrooms in Bern or Zürich.

How do I buy the ZP-1?

Directly online in the webshop, with delivery Switzerland-wide and to Liechtenstein in two to four business days. Click & Collect in Bern and Zürich is possible. Financing available. If you have questions, you can reach us by email at office@coffeecoachingclub.ch or via coffeecoachingclub.ch, or by phone during business hours.

Roastery tip

The ZP-1 shows off its clarity and body especially well with darker, balanced profiles. From our own roastery: Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight for the large majority who love dense, chocolatey-nutty cups. Anyone looking for maximum body without any acidity reaches for Very Nutty. And anyone in the mood for a lively, fruity experience tries Wild Peach – not as the main recommendation, but as a discovery for the curious. What tastes best to you, only your palate can find out. That's the beautiful part.
