Arkel Premium Portafilter 58mm
First the warm hardwood handle rests in your hand, then the cool weight of the polished stainless steel. Once locked into the group head, the portafilter sits snug and balanced, without tipping – and with every shot it's a reminder that preparation is also a tactile moment, long before the first drop falls.
Three variants, one handle
The Arkel portafilter comes in three versions, which you choose from the dropdown menu. The bottomless version opens the view onto the extraction and creates space under the group head. The double-spout version pulls two cups at once and channels the coffee with minimal splashing. The single-spout version is designed for the traditional single shot into narrow cups.
The handle is made from dark hardwood, the body from mirror-polished stainless steel. Whether a stainless steel end cap is included as a counterweight is shown in the product images. Filter baskets are not included – so you keep using your preferred 58mm baskets.

Why many reach for the bottomless version
With the bottomless portafilter, the espresso never touches metal spouts. The stream falls as a fine ‘mouse tail’ straight into the cup, which protects the crema emulsion and loses a touch less heat on the way. At the same time, the open bottom makes channeling visible – you spot early on when the extraction is running unevenly. That's our observation, one of many; the double- or single-spout version remains the more practical choice for many in everyday use.
Who it's for
For owners of an Arkel Coast or Arkel Tide who want to complete their setup with original accessories – and for anyone with an E61 machine (La Marzocco, Rocket, ECM, Profitec, Lelit) looking for a portafilter with a wooden handle. No one needs the switch; whoever wants it knows why.
The matching setup
The portafilter shows its full potential with the matching baskets from our IMS Collection and a tamper – affordable in the Normcore Collection or as a crafted piece from the Weber Workshops Collection. The matching machine is in the Arkel Collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a filter basket included?
No, filter baskets are not included. Most baristas already have their preferred 58mm baskets; we recommend precision baskets for even extraction.
Does the portafilter fit my La Marzocco, Rocket or ECM?
In principle yes: the Arkel portafilter follows the 58mm E61 standard used by most of these machines. If in doubt, measure the diameter of your current portafilter – 58 mm means compatible.
Bottomless or with spout – which should I choose?
Bottomless shows the extraction and protects the crema, ideal for single shots. The double spout is practical for two cups at once and against splashing. Many have both – one at home, the other for guests.
Can I see the portafilter in person before buying?
Yes, in our showrooms in Bern and Zürich. Delivery takes 2 to 4 business days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
As a coffee roastery, we like the open bottom because it's honest: it immediately shows whether the puck is extracting evenly. With a full-bodied roast such as Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight the stream becomes dense and easy to read. That's our recommendation, one of many.
