Cup under the spout, one of the four buttons pressed. The pump starts, water flows through the heat exchanger, and the shot timer counts on the display. Once the set amount is reached, the shot stops on its own – and while it's still running into the cup, steam for the milk is already standing by. Quiet, precise, in just 25 centimetres of width.
The Bezzera Nini S PID DE is a compact heat exchanger machine with electronic temperature control and programmable volumetric dosing. Bezzera builds it in Italy from stainless steel with a matte finish, available from us in black and in white.
The Nini works with a heat exchanger: a copper boiler keeps hot water ready for steam, and a pipe running through this boiler brings fresh water from the tank up to brewing temperature on its way to the group. The boiler water itself never ends up in the espresso. The advantage over a pure single boiler: you pull espresso and steam milk at the same time, without switching over. The electrically heated Bezzera group head has the machine ready after around ten minutes and keeps the temperature steady. As with any heat exchanger, a short flush before the first shot of the day is worth it, so the standing water reaches ideal temperature – with active PID control, this step stays brief.
We extract by weight ratio – 1:2 as a starting point, so around 18 g of coffee to 36 g of espresso – and adjust grind size, dose, and temperature until it tastes right to us. There's no right and no wrong.
Instead of a simple pressure switch, the Nini S PID regulates temperature electronically. The display shows the actual and target values, you set the brewing temperature to the exact degree and adjust it to your beans – stable even across several shots in a row.
Four programmable buttons plus one manual button for continuous extraction, with your desired amount set per button so the machine stops automatically. It's not gram-precise like an external scale, but reliably repeatable in everyday use – especially with a fixed grind size.
During extraction, a timer on the display counts the time. Handy for dialling in without needing a stopwatch next to you – as a reference alongside the weight ratio.
The overpressure valve regulates brewing pressure and is accessible from the outside. This lets you set the pressure (typically around 9 bar) without disassembly, and you can also try gentler settings like 8 or 7 bar. On request, a flow control kit is available for the PID versions on the BZ group; a third-party pressure sensor is compatible. The Nini also gets along well with the Clever Dripper (250 ml).

For everyone working with limited space who still wants heat exchanger technology: 25 centimetres of width fits into almost any kitchen counter, and the heat exchanger delivers espresso and milk foam in parallel. For daily espresso or cappuccino, PID and volumetric dosing make the process calm and repeatable. And for everyone who wants a piece of Italian machine-building craft on the counter, without moving up to a commercial format. The electrically heated group heats up faster than a classic E61; for servicing it, a workshop familiar with the brand makes sense. Anyone who prefers the E61 lever group can find the alternatives in our technical comparison.
An espresso-capable grinder is essential for clean shots. In our coffee grinders you'll find affordable and precise options like the Varia VS3 or the Comandante as a hand grinder; the Varia VS6 or the Weber Workshops EG-1 offer more headroom.
For clean tamping and puck prep, it's worth a look at the Normcore Collection or the Weber Workshops lineup – thanks to 58 mm, everything fits. To nail your 1:2 ratio, a scale from the Normcore Collection helps, or, with an app, one from the Acaia Collection.
How a heat exchanger machine differs from a single boiler and a dual boiler is explained in our deep dive on heating systems; when choosing, our coffee machine comparison helps.
You can buy the Bezzera Nini S PID DE in Switzerland in our online shop or directly from us in Zurich and Bern, where you can see it for yourself: Bern at Gerberngasse 44 (map) and Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b (map). We deliver across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2 to 4 business days. Financing is available.
When you buy a machine, a personal introductory course (around 60 minutes, in Bern, Zurich, or online) is included – we'll go through flushing, PID settings, volumetric dosing, and dialling in together. The course is for up to two people from the same household or company attending together and must take place within one month of the machine's delivery – after that, the entitlement expires. Get in touch with us for the course and we'll find a date together. We're happy to answer questions by [email protected] or by phone during business hours, more at coffeecoachingclub.ch.
It's a heat exchanger machine. A copper boiler supplies steam, a pipe inside it brings fresh brewing water up to temperature – so you can pull espresso and froth milk at the same time. The portafilter measures 58 mm.
No. All Nini versions – PM, DE and PID – use the same electrically heated 58 mm Bezzera group head, not an E61. That way, common 58 mm accessories fit every version.
As a heat exchanger machine, yes: before the first shot of the day, let a bit of water run through the group so the standing water reaches ideal temperature. Thanks to the heated group and PID, this step stays brief.
Using four programmable buttons, you set fixed extraction amounts; the machine stops automatically. A fifth button triggers a manual, continuous shot. This keeps the amount consistent from cup to cup.

From the roastery: the heated group runs a touch warmer and suits dense, sweet profiles well, even with milk. Program two of the four buttons – one at around 36 g for a solo espresso, a larger one for milk drinks; once the volumetric dosing matches your 1:2 ratio, your daily routine stays calm. We recommend Cozy Chocolate, Nutty Delight, and Very Nutty. If you like it light and fruity, try Wild Peach – lower the temperature a bit and extend the flush slightly for this one – or Bright Cassis from our coffee beans. That's our recommendation, one among many.
