Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper – 58mm High-Speed Tamping from Florence
Seven in the morning. The portafilter slides into the fork, one touch, 0.9 seconds – the puck is tamped. Constant pressure, a level surface, the same every time. What changes isn't the speed, it's the mental space you gain: warming the cup, dosing the grinder, steaming milk all happen in parallel. The rhythm settles, because one step simply falls away.
What makes the Mignon Automatic Tamper special
Eureka has been building coffee grinders in Sesto Fiorentino near Florence since 1920 – and knows the movements behind the counter. The Automatic Tamper is their answer to the question of what's actually repetitive in the espresso workflow: tamping. The adjustable pressing force from 10 to 30 kilograms means you decide once what you want – after that, the device delivers the same value every time. Consistency isn't a gimmick in espresso: change the tamping pressure and you change the resistance the water meets in the puck – and with it the extraction. Take pressure out as a variable, and bean, grind size and ratio become easier to observe.
In Single Mode, a tamp takes 0.9 seconds; in Double Mode, 1.4 seconds with two sequential pressing motions. Some baristas use Double Mode deliberately to even out compaction and reduce cracks in the puck – Single Mode remains for anyone who prefers a classic tamp. There's no right or wrong; what counts is the taste in the glass. Our opinion is one of many.
The 58mm tamper disc is removable for cleaning, and the universal portafilter fork adjusts in height between 39 and 60.6mm – it accommodates single, double and Naked portafilters from any brand. A lifespan of over 300,000 tamps is stated, a figure meant for commercial high-load use that at home is simply reserve capacity. The metal body in aluminum and stainless steel with a rubberized foot stands stable on any countertop. Designed for the Mignon line – visually matched to Specialità, Silenzio, Libra, Bravo, Stark and Single Dose – it works just as well standing on its own next to any other grinder.

Who the Mignon Automatic Tamper is for
For anyone who already has a Eureka at home and wants the workflow visually and functionally aligned – grinder, tamping, machine. For anyone who prepares several espressos a day and no longer sees tamping as a ritual moment but as a repetitive movement that can be handed off. For anyone who understands consistency as a precondition for learning: as long as the tamp varies, you don't know which variable you're actually changing with each shot. Take it out, and the rest becomes clearer.
The tamper works just as well with any other grinder brand – it's visually matched to the Mignon, but technically independent.
In Switzerland, you can buy the Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper directly from us – online with delivery in 2 to 4 working days, or live at the Coffee Coaching Club showroom in Bern and Zürich. We're a partner of Eureka from Florence and carry the full Mignon line.
Nobody needs an Automatic Tamper. Some love the moment of manual tamping – hand, weight, gesture. Others see it as a recurring step they'd rather automate. Both are right. Whoever wants it knows why.
Pairs well with
The Mignon Automatic Tamper complements any grinder from our Eureka Collection visually and functionally – Mignon Libra, Atom W 65 Casa, Single Dose Pro, Specialità. It works just as independently next to any grinder from our Coffee Grinders Collection. Anyone who wants to streamline the workflow further will find in Barista Equipment matching tamping stations, knock boxes and dosing cups. For the machine itself, it's worth a look at our Coffee Machines Collection – single boiler to dual boiler.
Anyone who wants to keep tamping manual will find in our Normcore Collection precise and affordable spring-loaded tampers. Anyone who prefers workshop craftsmanship and a hand-forged tamper should look at Weber Workshops. The Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper is the answer for anyone who wants to hand tamping off entirely – both paths are valid.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the tamper only fit Eureka Mignon grinders?
No. It's visually matched to the Mignon line but works as a standalone device next to any grinder. The portafilter fork is universally height-adjustable from 39 to 60.6mm and accommodates single, double and Naked portafilters from any brand.
How adjustable is the tamping pressure?
Between 10 and 30 kilograms, infinitely – you choose the value that suits your bean, your basket and your taste once, and after that the tamper delivers that value consistently.
What's the difference between Single and Double Mode?
In Single Mode, the tamper applies a single tamping pressure in 0.9 seconds. In Double Mode, two pressing motions follow sequentially in 1.4 seconds – some baristas use this to even out compaction and avoid cracks. Which mode suits you shows in the glass.
Which tamper diameter is fitted?
The standard configuration includes a 58mm tamper disc – the most common portafilter diameter worldwide. The disc is removable for cleaning.
Where can I buy the Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper in Switzerland?
Online directly in the Coffee Coaching Club shop with delivery in 2 to 4 working days to Switzerland and Liechtenstein – or live in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). If the device isn't on hand right there, we bring it into the store within one to three days. Seeing it live is part of our community idea – you belong because you're here.
How long does the device last?
Eureka states a lifespan of up to 300,000 tamps – at two espressos a day, that would be several hundred years. The figure is meant for commercial high-load use; in home use, it's simply reserve capacity. Defects can happen, but the materials are consistently built for the long run: aluminum and stainless steel body, rubberized foot.

Roastery Tip
We recommend a tamping pressure between 15 and 20 kilograms as a starting point – the range where most of our beans extract cleanly. With our Cozy Chocolate or the Nutty Delight you get a full-bodied, rounded espresso with caramel and nutty notes, whose depth a consistent tamp brings out clearly. Anyone looking for full body without acidity reaches for Very Nutty. And anyone who wants to go the fruity route will find in Wild Peach a lively cup that becomes aromatically clearer with even tamping. Which one suits you only shows in the cup.
