What makes the Hypernova set special
The base material is 440 stainless steel with a hardness of HRC65, plus a titanium coating on the cutting edges. Compared to the standard Supernova burrs, this brings medium body with increased clarity and a somewhat more balanced profile, especially in the finer espresso range.
The titanium coating keeps the cutting edges sharp for longer and provides slower heat transfer: the grind edge stays cooler, which contributes to a more even particle distribution across the whole dose. Grinding speed is a bit lower than with plain stainless steel due to the smoother surface, but consistency is higher.

Yes, all generations of the Varia VS3. The swap takes just a few minutes with minimal tools; recalibrate the grind size afterwards.
What's the difference between Hypernova and the standard Supernova burrs?
Hypernova is titanium-coated on 440 stainless steel with HRC65. That brings more clarity, a more balanced profile and longer-lasting sharp cutting edges.
Is the set suitable for espresso and filter?
Yes. The improvement shows up mainly in the finer espresso range, but the set works across the whole grind range.
Do I need to recalibrate after the swap?
Yes, that's part of it. Plan for one or two test shots until the grind size settles back in.
Roastery tip
If you're coming from the standard Supernova burrs, give the new grind character a few days. The cooler, more even grinding shows up most clearly with medium roasts – our Cozy Chocolate is a good starting point for dialling in. That's our recommendation, one of many.
