The brew group is open, the shower screen still slightly warm from the last extraction, and you can make out a fine film of coffee oil that has built up there over the past few weeks. Now the right movement is what counts: place the tool on the screw, turn, feel it come loose – without resistance, without the tip slipping.
An ordinary screwdriver from the toolbox will do at a pinch – but it rarely fits properly, slips easily and brings your fingers closer than you’d like to a brew group that was hot only moments ago. The original La Marzocco screwdriver is shaped for exactly this one movement, with the La Marzocco logo as a small sign that original accessories for your own machine are at work here.
The tip sits exactly in the shower screen screw, so it loosens instead of slipping, and the screw doesn’t get lost in the process. The handle keeps your fingers at a distance from hot water drops and the warm brew group – a small difference you notice every time you clean.
Whether a specially shaped tool for a single screw is worth it is something some people see more pragmatically than we do – that’s one view among many. For us, it is simply part of carefully looking after a machine that is in use every day.

For anyone who maintains their La Marzocco machine themselves and removes the shower screen from time to time, whether in their own kitchen, in the office or in a small showroom setting. No prior knowledge or practice needed – just the willingness to give the machine the care it gives back every day.
If you’re opening the brew group anyway, you’ll find more original accessories and spare parts for your own machine in our La Marzocco collection. For care all round, it’s worth taking a look at our cleaning products for machine and grinder. And if you like to keep a small set of maintenance tools close at hand, you’ll find what you need among our barista tools.
With the right tool, you loosen the screw that holds the shower screen in the brew group cleanly and without the tip slipping, as can happen with an ordinary screwdriver from the toolbox – so the screen is easy to remove, clean and put back.
Fine coffee oil residues build up in the screen over time and can make the water flow uneven. A glance during regular backflushing is usually enough to see whether a thorough clean is worthwhile.
It is designed for La Marzocco brew groups with a screwed-in shower screen, as fitted in several current models. If you’re unsure, just send us your model at [email protected] – we’ll tell you whether it fits.
There’s no fixed interval – water quality, usage and beans are a little different for every machine. As part of the care that’s due anyway, it’s worth checking whether any residue is showing.
No. With the right tool, the screw comes loose in just a few moves, with no prior knowledge at all, and the shape of the handle protects your fingers from hot drops and the warm brew group.
Our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) show a wide selection, but not our entire range – the display changes. Drop us a quick line at [email protected] before your visit, and we will check whether the product you have in mind is currently there.
A machine that is looked after this carefully deserves beans with just as much character. Our main recommendation: Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight, dense, aromatic, with lots of body. For maximum body without any acidity: Very Nutty. For anyone who’d like to discover a fruity experience: Wild Peach, lively and always a discovery. Our recommendation from the roastery, one of many.
