The portafilter is the tool that spends the most time in your hand at a bar. On the ModBar it comes with a walnut wood handle that picks up the look of the system and stays pleasantly warm in use. After a few years, the wear shows – the wood turns dull, the bayonet ring develops play and the spouts get scratched.
This is the two-spout portafilter with part number A.5.096, supplied without a filter basket. A spare portafilter is also what keeps the workflow going when two people are working at the same time.
The portafilter no longer sits snugly in the group, jumps when you lock it in or suddenly needs to travel much further.
There are grooves on the bayonet ring or the sealing surface, so the shot leaks out at the side.
The wooden handle is cracked, faded or loose.
You simply need a second portafilter so nobody has to wait for one during rush hour.

For bars and roasteries with a ModBar that need a replacement or second portafilter, and for anyone whose portafilter no longer locks in cleanly after years of service.
Also for cafés that deliberately work with two portafilters: one in the group, the other being cleaned and filled – that costs less time than any speed-up at the grinder.
From our workshop
In our bars in Bern and Zurich, the wooden handle gets a little care every few months and never a cycle in the dishwasher – heat and detergent ruin the wood within a season. The metal part, on the other hand, we clean consistently, because otherwise old coffee oils flavour every shot. This is our routine, not a manufacturer requirement. We test a new portafilter with Cozy Chocolate, because you can taste channeling in a natural right away. Our beans: our coffee beans.
Returns excluded
Service parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are procured specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we’ll check the fit together. Your rights in the event of defective goods remain unaffected.
No. The portafilter is supplied without a basket. The filter basket is a separate item.
Our documentation assigns number A.5.096 to the ModBar. Send us the model and serial number and we’ll check the fit before you order.
Yes, we stock the walnut wood handle separately. If the metal part is still in good condition, that is the cheaper solution.
You can clean the metal part, but not the wood. We remove the handle for this or clean by hand.
Yes. We have two showrooms: Bern at Gerberngasse 44 and Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Drop us a line beforehand and we’ll have the part ready and look at it together on your machine.
Not sure whether this is the right number? Write to us at [email protected] with the model, year of manufacture and serial number, and we’ll check it for you. We deliver across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2-4 working days.
You order directly through our online shop. If you have questions, we're happy to help — online or in person — with experience from our roastery, cafés and showrooms.
