On the KB90, this rubber ring is exposed daily, often several times, to the same cycle of pressure, heat, and cleaning agent. It's exactly this combination that makes rubber gradually become brittle and less elastic.

Rubber gaskets gradually lose tension through recurring heat and mechanical stress. If the rubber on the blind filter no longer sits exactly right, pressure can escape sideways during backflushing instead of acting fully through the group head – cleaning then becomes less thorough, without it being immediately noticeable.
