Espazzola 2+3-58 – Cleaning Tool for 58 mm Group Heads
Instead of scrubbing the hot, angular group head by hand, you lock the Espazzola in like a portafilter, start the hot water flow and move it gently back and forth. In less than 20 seconds the group head is wiped and rinsed.
The Espazzola consists of a rigid cup with handle and a flexible membrane. The membrane adapts to the group head and wipes all areas at once, right up to the gasket and into the groove for the portafilter lugs. The machine's hot water rinses everything through. As soon as the water running out is clear, you stop the flow.

Its predecessor, the Espazzola-2-58, had two fixed lugs. With the 2+3-58 you decide how many lugs sit on the cup: stainless steel wire clips snap into designated slots in the cup wall. This lets you adapt the Espazzola to the shape of your portafilter, including two angled or three lugs. The size stays the same.
Sturdy steel wire lugs
The lug clips are made of springy stainless steel wire and are therefore less sensitive than the earlier plastic lugs. If a clip does break, it can be replaced quickly. The Espazzola comes with three clips, two of them fitted.
Better membrane fit
The holding pockets in the cup are deeper and grip the membrane better. According to the manufacturer, the membrane slipping out is almost impossible.
Optimised membrane
The membrane has a new shape, adapts even better to the shower screen and, according to the manufacturer, lasts considerably longer.
New water routing
The dirty water is collected in a funnel under the cup and released in a controlled way into the drip tray near the tip of the funnel.

Does the Espazzola 2+3-58 fit my machine?
It fits most machines with a 58 mm group head. Check the tamper diameter and the portafilter outer diameter (at least 69 mm without lugs). According to the manufacturer, it does not fit the Ascaso Dream, Arc and Basic (the Dream PID fits), Bezzera Hobby up to model year 2014, Breville/Sage, Decent Espresso, GRAEF, Illy Francis/Francis!, La Pavoni Domus Bar and Domus Casa, Lelit Anna, Anita, Diana and Grace, Vibiemme Lollo, Reneka and various Quick Mill models.
Does the Espazzola work in lever machines?
In suitable lever machines, yes. Inserting it is a little more difficult at first because the bell is narrower. According to the manufacturer, it helps to bend the wire lugs down slightly. The same applies to the Gaggia CC.
How do I use the Espazzola?
Push it all the way up into the group head like a portafilter and only then turn it in, start the hot water flow, move it gently back and forth and stop as soon as the water runs clear. Then remove it and empty out the remaining water.
Can I backflush with the Espazzola?
No. The cup deliberately builds up no pressure. For backflushing with cleaner you need a blind basket.
