You load the beans and turn the flywheel. After the first few turns, the grinder keeps going almost by itself, even at espresso-fine grind size. No motor hum, just the sound of the beans passing through the burrs. Its own weight keeps it steady on the counter – holding it with both hands isn't necessary.
The NECCST Series 1 is a hand grinder from Munich, developed by Stefan and Fynn Eckstein at Eckstein Design. Three years of development, honoured with the Red Dot Design Award 2026 in the Product Design category.
No click stops: you turn, feel, and hit the setting with a resolution of 0.001 mm. From espresso through filter to French press – without recalibrating in between.
Purpose-developed and coated with titanium nitride (TiN): hard, flavour-neutral, with a long service life and low heat build-up while grinding. Less heat protects the bean's volatile aroma compounds – coffee carries over 800 of them.
A vertical grind path, an anti-static wiper and a magnetically detachable PMMA output funnel keep residue under 0.1 grams. Switch bean types without carrying over leftover aromas.
The Series 1 is purely manual and completely analogue – for anyone who already has a scale or deliberately works analogue. The Series 1 GBW (Grind-by-Weight) carries the magnetically detachable NECCST Scale in its base and weighs directly out of the grinder, in three modes (Grind, Brew, Advanced). You'll find scales in our barista scales collection. Which version suits you depends on your workflow – nobody strictly needs one or the other, you choose it. That's our view, one of many.

Yes. The stepless adjustment range covers everything – from fine espresso to coarse French press grind, without recalibrating in between.
Very quiet. As a purely manual grinder, you only hear the sound of the beans being ground, no motor hum.
Yes. The conical burr assembly can be removed with the included Allen key, which makes cleaning and maintenance easier.
Yes, you can see the NECCST Series 1 for yourself in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b).
A burr set that generates little heat rewards dense, aromatic roasts – our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight come through in the cup with full chocolate and round sweetness. For maximum body without acidity, Very Nutty; and if you're after a lively, fruity cup, you'll find it in the light-roast Wild Peach. This is our recommendation, one of many.
