The Acaia Lunar is an object you pick up and immediately understand: no corners were cut here. The Lunar is the espresso variant in the Acaia family – flat enough (15.5 mm) to fit under practically any drip tray, robust enough for daily bar use, with a real-time Flow Rate display and all the auto modes relevant to espresso. What the Lunar Measures – and How
0.1 g resolution, with an optional 0.01 g for that last degree of precision. The Flow Rate appears in real time as an LED bar on the display – you see not just how much is flowing into the cup, but how fast. An uneven flow shows up in the indicator before it shows up in the cup. Channeling, a flow spike at the pre-infusion transition, a puck that breaks through toward the end – it all becomes visible during the shot, not only afterward through smell and taste. Stabilization time under one second. The Auto-Tare system tares automatically the moment the portafilter is set down, and the Auto-Timer starts with the first drop.
Bluetooth 5.0, Acaia App (iOS and Android). The Lunar works with every portafilter machine – ECM, Rocket, Bezzera, Lelit, La Marzocco, Flair. No app pairing with the machine required. A standalone espresso scale that fits into any setup.
Build Quality – Aluminum and Water Resistance
The housing is anodized aluminum with a water-resistant coating. Drips from the portafilter, a spilled shot, the morning wipe-down with a damp cloth – the Lunar is built for that. The heat-protection pad (included) sits between the cup and the scale and protects the electronics from hot cup bottoms. USB-C charging, lithium-ion battery with 30 to 40 hours of runtime – if you pull one shot a day, you'll charge it about once a quarter.

Who Is the Lunar For
The Lunar is for anyone who makes espresso every day and wants to know what's happening while they do. For anyone who wants a scale that pairs with any machine – no brand lock-in, no compromise on accuracy. For anyone who sees an espresso scale as a deliberate object on the counter, and cares that the device they hold in their hand every day still looks and works the same way after years.
If you're looking for a more affordable scale: Normcore scales (exclusive Swiss importer) cover the essential functions – no app, no Flow Rate indicator, but at a noticeably lower price. If you're looking for a larger scale for pour-over and filter coffee: the Acaia Pearl 2021 is the Lunar's big sister – more surface area for pour-over workflows, the same Acaia character in the build.
The Lunar on the La Marzocco Linea Mini R
Since March 2026, there's been a path that many La Marzocco Mini R buyers find the most elegant: the Lunar 2021 with a USB-C port (serial number AL008XXXXXXXX or higher) can be upgraded via a one-time Connected Scale license – around 100 euros through the La Marzocco app – into a full Brew-by-Weight scale for the Mini R. The license is installed via a firmware upgrade in the Acaia app, and the process takes about five minutes. After that, the Lunar communicates directly with the Mini R via Bluetooth: set the target weight, flip the paddle, and the Mini R stops automatically at the target weight – with a predictive algorithm that accounts for drip-off.
Important for compatibility: only the Lunar 2021 with a USB-C port (serial number from AL008 onward) can run the upgrade. Older Lunar models with a Micro-USB port aren't compatible – the internal electronics are different. If you buy a compatible Lunar from us, you get two tools in one: a full-featured espresso scale with app, Flow Rate display, and all Acaia functions for any machine – and, after the license upgrade, Connected Scale functionality on the Mini R. The Lunar upgrade isn't mandatory – the Lunar also works excellently on the Mini R, as on any other machine, without the license.

What's the difference between the Acaia Lunar and the Acaia Pearl?
The Lunar is optimized for espresso – flat (15.5 mm), small (105 × 105 mm), fits under practically any drip tray, with auto modes for espresso. The Pearl is larger (160 × 160 × 32 mm), designed for pour-over and filter coffee – more surface area, more brewing modes for manual brewing methods. Both come with Bluetooth 5.0, the Acaia app, and a Flow Rate display. If you do both, you pair the Lunar with the Pearl – the Lunar on the machine, the Pearl on the brew bar.
What colors is the Acaia Lunar available in?
Black, White, and Silver – all three are available. The finish and the weight are most convincing when you hold the scale in your hand. Compare them in person at our showrooms in Bern and Zürich.
Does the Acaia Lunar work with every espresso machine?
Yes – it's machine-independent. No app pairing with the machine is needed. The Lunar works with any machine that has a drip tray with enough room. With very low cup clearance, the Lunar's 15.5 mm height is a clear advantage over thicker scales.
What does the optional 0.01 g resolution mean?
By default, the Lunar displays in 0.1 g increments. In extended mode, it displays down to 0.01 g – one extra digit for anyone who wants to dose even more precisely. It can be activated directly on the scale or through the Acaia app.
I have a La Marzocco Linea Mini or Mini R – is there anything to know?
Since March 2026, compatible Lunar models (USB-C, model number AL008XXXXXXXX or higher) can be upgraded via a firmware upgrade into a La Marzocco Connected Scale. This unlocks Brew-by-Weight on the Mini R and Grind-by-Weight on the Mahlkönig Pico. Upgrade license: around 100 euros, installed in five minutes. Not mandatory – the Lunar also works excellently on the Linea Mini R without the upgrade. Older Lunar models with a Micro-USB port cannot be upgraded.
Can I see the Acaia Lunar before buying?
Yes. At the showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b), the Lunar is ready to be picked up and held. The finish, the weight, and the display can't really be conveyed through photos.

Roastery Tip
What the Lunar shows every day in the showroom: once you've pulled a shot with a Flow Rate display, you're reluctant to go back. With Cozy Chocolate, we see a calm, even flow on the Lunar – the bean extracts easily, and the indicator stays stable in the ideal range. Nutty Delight behaves just as reliably. Wild Peach shows, more clearly on the Lunar than on a simple scale, how light roasts with their denser puck structure call for a slower, more controlled flow – if the indicator jumps too fast, the grind is too coarse. That's our observation – one of many.
