Explore more →The small espresso cup sits well below the spout, and every shot splashes onto the scale and drip tray – until you slide the cup stand up a level: the cup moves close to the portafilter, and the stream only has a short way to fall, clean and without splashing.
The WPM Primus deliberately leaves a lot of clearance under the group head, practical for tall glasses and brewing vessels. With small espresso cups, this creates a longer drop. The height-adjustable Cup Stand shortens that distance – infinitely adjustable, stable, and from the same house as the machine. Less drop height means fewer splashes, better-preserved crema, and a cleaner workspace.
Good to know before you invest in further accessories: the WPM Primus has its own portafilter design. Standard 58 mm baskets fit, but for a bottomless shot you need WPM's own Naked Portafilter.

The espresso leaves the group head at around 88–96 °C. Every centimetre of free fall cools it slightly, and volatile aroma compounds can escape before reaching the cup. With light roasts and fruity notes, this can play a role, since those exact compounds are temperature-sensitive. How clearly the difference comes through depends on many factors – that's our observation, one among many.
For everyone who pulls small cups with the WPM Primus and keeps an eye on splashes, crema, and a clean workspace. And for everyone who wants to keep their scale dry under the cup.
The Cup Stand works together with the rest of your setup: the full WPM range in the WPM Collection, barista tools, and an affordable, precise scale in the Normcore Collection, with app and flow rate in the Acaia Collection. Freshly ground with a single-dose grinder from the Varia Collection.
It's designed as an accessory for the WPM Primus. Thanks to its infinitely adjustable height, it can in principle also be used with other machines – what matters is whether the footprint fits.
A shorter drop protects the crema emulsion and reduces splashing. How noticeable that is in the cup depends on the machine, the bean, and the recipe.
Yes, the WPM Primus is on display in our showrooms in Bern and Zürich as well. Delivery takes 2 to 4 business days throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.

As a coffee roastery, we like small adjustments like this: a short drop, a calm cup. For dialing in and calibrating, a full-bodied roast like Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight. That's our recommendation, one among many.
