The portafilter slides in, a short mechanical hum, a gentle push from above – and the puck sits flat and even, with the same feel under your palm as last time, and the time before that. The Puqpress M3 sits directly beneath the grinder for exactly this reason, turning grinding and tamping into one calm motion: insert the portafilter, wait about a second, move on to the machine.
Where pressure inside the coffee bed is uneven, water finds the path of least resistance during brewing – one side of the cup ends up over-extracted, the other under. That's why the M3 tamps with the same, digitally set pressure between 5 and 30 kilograms every time, in around 1.3 seconds. As a modular unit, it's designed to sit beneath the Mahlkönig E65S and E65S GBW; with the optional M3 Bracket, the same module can also be mounted under other, similarly sized grinders. What's left is less thinking about tamping pressure and more attention for what actually matters – the taste in the cup. Whether that makes the difference for your own extraction is partly a matter of habit; our opinion is one of many.

For anyone who wants to combine grinding and tamping into one tidy, compact unit and doesn't want to rely on their own tamping pressure every single time – whether your Mahlkönig E65S has been on the counter for years or is just arriving. You'll find the matching grinder in our Mahlkönig collection, and more tools around the puck and extraction in our Barista Equipment.
After tamping, it's worth looking at what happens right before and after. For even distribution before tamping, WDT tools come in two price ranges – straightforward and reliable in the Normcore range, or for anyone who wants more, in the Weber Workshops collection. For the last step before the machine, Puck Screens even out water flow – again affordable and reliable at Normcore, or in the finer Weber Workshops execution at Weber Workshops. There's no such thing as a lesser budget here – what matters in the end is what's in the cup.

It's designed directly for the E65S and E65S GBW. For other, similarly sized grinders, there's the optional M3 Bracket, which lets the same tamping unit be mounted on a different grinder.
The tamp diameter ranges from 53 to 58.3 mm, made for 58 mm portafilters including bottomless ones. Pressure can be set digitally from 5 to 30 kilograms in 1-kilogram steps, and tamping itself takes around 1.3 seconds.
Both are modular automatic tampers from Puqpress, but built for different grinders: the M3 sits beneath the Mahlkönig E65S and E65S GBW with a pressure range of 5 to 30 kilograms, while the M4 sits beneath the Fiorenzato F64 and F83 with a pressure range of 10 to 30 kilograms. Which one fits depends first on the grinder you already have or plan to get.
Yes. The Puqpress M3 is set up in our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b), so you can take a look at it in person, in your own time.
For most people, we recommend Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight from our own roastery – full-bodied, aromatic, dense, exactly what an evenly tamped puck shows off best. If you're after maximum body without any acidity, there's Very Nutty. And for anyone curious about a fruit-forward cup: Wild Peach – lively, with noticeable acidity, a discovery on the side. That's our recommendation from the roastery, one of many possible ones.
