The larger ring in the paddle group seal kit

In a paddle group, several seals work together: small ones on the shaft, larger ones on the surfaces and threaded fittings. This ring belongs to the larger ones. It has an easier life than the rings that move with every shot, and in return the thankless habit of ageing inconspicuously: it seals and seals – until one morning the group is damp on the housing.

If you are opening a group anyway, replace it at the same time. It costs little, and the work is the same the second time as the first. That is exactly why this ring is on every sensible overhaul list – not because it often fails, but because you can only reach it with the group open.

When it's due

Moisture or a limescale edge appears on the group housing. The removed ring is hard or keeps its compressed shape. The group is being opened for an overhaul and all seals are being replaced. Or you are currently replacing the other rings of the group – then this one belongs with them.

Important for installation

The paddle group carries brewing water under pressure; only open it when it is cold and depressurised. We deliberately don't give step-by-step instructions here, because the order of reassembly and the torque on the group require experience. After installation, a test shot while watching the group is part of the job – and if something then gets damp anywhere, don't retighten it, open it up again.

Who it's for

For workshops that completely overhaul a paddle group, and for businesses preparing such an overhaul. Ordered on its own, this ring is usually the follow-up to a kit that was not complete the first time round.

What goes with it

The smaller partner from the same assembly is the EPDM O-ring 110 for the paddle group; mechanically, the spacer for the paddle group and the conical shaft for the GS3 paddle valve belong with it. All parts for the machine are in the La Marzocco GS3 spare parts section, and all the small parts in the Original spare parts section.

From our workshop in Bern and Zurich: We lay the removed rings of a paddle group on a sheet of paper in the order they came out and write the position next to each one. When reassembling, it is then clear which ring goes where – and you notice immediately if one is missing from the kit. This is our own routine, not a manufacturer requirement. We pull the first shot after the overhaul with Cozy Chocolate, because with freshly fitted seals it shows very clearly whether the flow is even. For something stronger, there is Very Nutty; everything else is in Coffee beans.

No returns
Original spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced specifically for each order and cannot be resold once they have been installed or test-fitted on a machine. So before ordering, check your machine's model, year of manufacture and serial number – or drop us a quick message and we'll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.

Frequently asked questions

What material is the ring made of?

Our documentation does not state the material for this part, and we don't add it based on guesswork. If you need it for your documentation, we'll ask the manufacturer.

Is this the same ring as the O-ring 110?

No. Both belong to the paddle group, but they are different parts with different numbers and dimensions.

Which machine does it fit?

Our documentation names the paddle group, but no specific model. Send us the serial number and we'll check the fit before you order.

Can I get a complete seal kit?

Tell us which group you are overhauling and we'll put together the matching parts, so you don't have to reorder them one by one.

Can I see the part at your place?

Yes. Come to our showroom in Bern at Gerberngasse 44 or in Zurich at Hagenholzstrasse 50b. Bring the removed rings with you and we'll sort them together.

Do you need the complete kit? Write to us at [email protected]. We deliver across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein in 2-4 working days.
