With the ModBar, the technology sits under the counter and only the tap stays visible. That makes it all the more annoying when something drips right there: the guest sees it before the barista hears it. This O-ring is part of the steam tap seal and, at 75 Shore A, is designed slightly firmer than the usual 70 rings – in return, it withstands the pressure at this point better.
Like any seal that works with every operation, it has an expiry date. It hardens, it takes on the shape of its groove, and at some point the tap no longer closes completely. The good news is that it is still one of the cheapest parts of the whole system.
The steam tap drips or hisses even though it is fully closed. A limescale ring forms on the tap. Operation feels stiff or noticeably soft. Or the tap is being taken apart for a service anyway – then the new ring goes in as planned.

The steam tap carries steam under pressure, and the ModBar is usually permanently built into the counter. Before taking it apart, the system must be cooled down and depressurised. We deliberately do not give step-by-step instructions here: accessibility depends on the installation situation, and what is simple in the workshop quickly becomes awkward under a counter. Plan the work outside service hours and have it done by a specialist.
For businesses with a ModBar in the counter and for the service partners who look after them. If you run several taps, it makes sense to keep several rings in stock straight away: taking things apart is the effort, not the part.
The spring for the ModBar steam valve belongs to the same assembly. On the water side, we carry the hot water line for KB90 and ModBar. We have a similarly strong but different ring as the O-ring 2.62 × 17.13 mm in FKM – same cross-section, different diameter, its own number. All other seals can be found in the spare parts section.
From our workshop in Bern and Zurich: With under-counter systems, we photograph the installation situation before taking anything apart – hoses, cable routing, order. Under a counter, everything looks the same after twenty minutes, and the photo is faster than any memory. Our own routine, not a manufacturer requirement. Once the tap closes cleanly again, the first milk test at our place goes to Nutty Delight; for filter and batch brew, we prefer the Cozy Chocolate. You can find the full range under Coffee beans.
No returns
Spare parts are excluded from exchange and return. They are sourced to order and cannot be resold after installation or test fitting on the machine. So before ordering, check the model, year of manufacture and serial number of your machine – or drop us a line and we’ll clarify the fit together. Your rights in the case of defective goods remain unaffected.
We don’t have a separate model filter for the ModBar. That’s why the assignment is shown in the table. Order by part number or just ask us.
Our documentation only states the hardness of 75 ShA, not the material. We don’t add it on guesswork, but we are happy to ask the manufacturer on request.
Several parts work together on the steam tap. Tell us what you are taking apart, and we will put together the right items.
Only if the system is safely depressurised and you can reach the tap. Under a counter, this is often more work than it looks. We recommend a specialist.
