The original Mina portafilter in bottomless format – from the factory in Schwanden GL. As supplied by Olympia: bottomless and without a basket. This allows you to see the basket directly during extraction and control distribution and extraction in real time. For the basket itself, the Mina uses the 49mm standard – the same basket as the Cremina family.
Unlike many other machines, the Mina portafilter is bottomless by design. You can see the entire underside of the puck during extraction – a diagnostic tool that usually has to be purchased separately. Channeling, spraying, the clean build-up of crema: everything directly visible.
Important to know: As in the original Olympia range, the portafilter comes without a basket. The suitable 49mm basket (Cremina standard, 1 or 2 cups) is available separately – a deliberate concept, because you can choose between a single or double shot depending on the day.
| Basket size | 49 mm (Cremina standard) |
| Format | Bottomless ex works |
| Scope of delivery | Portafilter with handle, without basket |
| Compatibility | Olympia Express Mina |
| Origin | Schwanden, Canton Glarus, Switzerland |
49mm basket 1 cup (7–9 g) for single shot or 2 cups (14–16 g) for double shot. Since the 49mm Mina basket is identical to the 49mm Cremina basket, both basket variants from the Olympia Express Collection are compatible.
For all Mina owners who want a replacement portafilter or need to replace their original portafilter after losing it on a trip. Also for all those who want to further refine their distribution through the bottomless view – the Mina is one of the few lever machines where this is intended ex works.
Basket 49 mm 1 or 2 cups: Olympia Express Collection. Tamper Mina (49.5 mm, also compatible with Cremina): also available there. Precision baskets for finer extraction: IMS Precision Baskets Collection.
A 49mm basket – the same size as for the Cremina. Olympia offers 1-cup baskets (dosing recommendation 7–9 g) and 2-cup baskets (14–16 g) in the original size. Both are available in the Olympia Collection.
With the Mina, this is intended ex works – so you can observe the extraction directly at the basket during brewing. Channeling, distribution errors, and crema build-up become immediately visible, which significantly accelerates the learning curve effect.
Olympia supplies the portafilter as a base, so you can choose a single or double shot depending on the day, without having to buy a second basket. If you only buy one, we recommend the 2-cup basket – it works more flexibly.

A bottomless portafilter ex works is one of the Mina's most honest design decisions – Olympia assumes you want to know what's happening below. When you pull with the Mina for the first time and see what your distribution looks like during lever pressure build-up, you'll learn more in 5 minutes than you otherwise would in a week. Our opinion, one of many.
