MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 53.35 mm – calibrated tamper for Sage and Breville
On the compact 54 mm stage of your Sage or Breville, every millimetre counts. You place the tamper, press down, and a quiet click confirms it: the pressure is right, right now. That way the puck sits the same shot after shot – no guessing.
The 53.35 mm version of the Flash – a precise fit for the 54 mm group heads of Sage and Breville.
Why an even tamp matters
During the shot, water finds the easiest path through the puck. If it's unevenly compressed, it flows faster where it's looser – the extraction becomes uneven. A consistent, evenly strong tamp lays the groundwork for a well-rounded shot, and on the smaller 54 mm surface, differences stand out even more.
The Flash uses a three-spring system that holds a constant pressure of around 30 lbs; the quiet click gives the signal as soon as you reach that point. A 15 lb spring is included for lighter pressure. The titanium base is sturdy, feels antistatic and holds back less grounds, and the handle combines wood and metal. Tamping is a craft, not a rule – the Flash just makes it more repeatable. Our opinion is one of many.

Who it's for
For anyone with a Sage or Breville machine in the 54 mm format who wants to make their tamp even and repeatable. The acoustic click gives you confidence, without needing to keep the pressure in mind.
What pairs with it
An even tamp works together with the rest of your setup. You'll find tamping stations, Puck Screens and WDT tools affordably in the Normcore Collection and finished with extra care in the Weber Workshops Collection.
More tampers to compare are in our Tamper Collection. And since the best tamp only shows its worth with the right machine, it's worth a look at our espresso machines – supported by the advisory tool.
Frequently asked questions
Why 53.35 mm and not 54 mm?
The baskets in Sage and Breville portafilters measure just under 54 mm on the inside. A 53.35 mm tamper sits in them cleanly and leaves less grounds at the edge.
How does the click feedback work?
As soon as you reach around 30 lbs, the mechanism gives a quiet click – so you tamp with the same force every time.
Can I adjust the pressure?
Yes. Alongside the standard spring, a 15 lb spring is included if you prefer to work with lighter pressure.
Can I see the tamper in person before buying?
Very much so. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can experience it live. Online we deliver in 2–4 business days, across Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
Tip from our roastery
An even tamp shows itself especially with rich, sweet roasts. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight taste well-rounded and forgive a lot. For maximum body without acidity, the Very Nutty, and for a fruity experience, the Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
