Why WDT makes the difference
Grinding creates small clumps, and where the grounds sit denser, the water flows more slowly – where they're looser, it shoots straight through. This channeling makes extraction uneven. The fine needles of the Weiss Distribution Technique reach deep into the grounds, break up the clumps and distribute everything evenly before you tamp.
On the Lightning 2.0, you adjust the rotating head so the eight thin 0.4 mm needles match the size and shape of your basket – reaching the entire surface. The body is made from SUS304 stainless steel and aluminum, with six spare needles included. The tool is designed for both espresso and filter coffee. Espresso is a craft, not a set of rules. What does WDT stand for?
For Weiss Distribution Technique: with fine needles, you break up clumps in the grounds and distribute them evenly before you tamp. That prevents channeling and makes extraction more even.
What does the adjustable head do?
The width of the eight needles adjusts to the size and shape of your basket, so they reach the entire surface – regardless of diameter.
Do I also need a distributor?
Many people use both: the WDT tool breaks up clumps deep in the grounds, the distributor smooths the surface. Neither is strictly necessary – but together they create an especially even bed.
Can I see the tool in person before buying?
