A WDT tool whose needle width you adjust to your basket.
Grinding creates small clumps, and where the grounds sit denser, water flows slower – where they're looser, it rushes through. This channeling makes extraction uneven. The fine needles of the Weiss Distribution Technique reach deep into the grounds, break up the clumps, and distribute everything evenly before you tamp.
On the Lightning 2.0, you adjust the rotating head so the eight thin 0.4 mm needles match the size and shape of your basket – reaching the whole surface. The body is made of SUS304 stainless steel and aluminum, and six spare needles are included. The tool is made for espresso as well as filter coffee. Espresso is a craft, not a law. Our opinion is one of many.

| Material | SUS304 stainless steel and aluminum |
| Included | includes 6 spare needles |
| Suitable for | Espresso and filter coffee |
For everyone who wants to loosen their grounds evenly before tamping – whether in the portafilter or the filter. The adjustable head makes the tool flexible for different basket sizes.
A WDT tool works together with a distributor and tamper. You'll find tampers, distributors, and Puck Screens affordably in the Normcore Collection and especially finely crafted in the Weber Workshops Collection; more tools are in our Tamper Collection.
And because an even bed only shows its worth with the right machine, it's worth a look at our espresso machines – supported by our advisory tool.
For Weiss Distribution Technique: with fine needles, you break up clumps in the grounds and distribute them evenly before you tamp. This prevents channeling and makes extraction more even.
You adjust the width of the eight needles to the size and shape of your basket, so they reach the whole surface – regardless of diameter.
Many use both: the WDT tool breaks up clumps deep in the grounds, the distributor smooths the surface. Both aren't necessary – but together they create an especially even bed.
Of course. In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zürich (Hagenholzstrasse 50b) you can experience it live. Online, we deliver in 2–4 business days, throughout Switzerland and to Liechtenstein.
An even distribution shows especially well with full-bodied, sweet roasts. Our Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight taste rounded and are forgiving. For maximum body without acidity, go with Very Nutty, and for a fruity experience, Wild Peach. That's our recommendation – one of many.
