According to Weber Workshops, the Unifilter is the first unibody portafilter: portafilter and basket are one single part, forged, milled and hand-polished from 304 stainless steel. There is no removable basket. Coffee Coaching Club is the official Swiss importer of Weber Workshops and carries the Unifilter with a handle in FKM rubber or teak.
What makes the Unifilter special
Made like a watch
Weber Workshops takes its cue from watchmaking in how the Unifilter is made. The body is created from a single piece of 304 stainless steel: forged, milled, hand-polished.
Perforation right up to the wall
Because of how they are made, typical 58 mm baskets have sloping side walls, and only around 48 mm of the diameter is perforated. The Unifilter has vertical inner walls, the holes are laser-drilled individually and reach right up to the wall. According to Weber, this gives a true 58.5 mm puck from top to bottom and even extraction across the whole puck.
No hidden spots
With a removable basket, coffee residue settles in gaps and grooves. Without regular removal and cleaning, it turns rancid. The Unifilter is one piece with no concealed surfaces; according to Weber, rinsing with water after each shot is enough.
A different view of the shot
The shot looks different from one pulled with a conventional portafilter. Instead of one converging stream, the espresso drips in many individual streams. The stiffer base does not bulge outwards and does not draw the streams together. This lets you see more precisely what is happening in the puck.
Extraction dynamics
The chart from Weber Workshops shows the difference: the base of a typical basket (0.25 mm) bulges outwards under load, while the 0.7 mm thick base of the Unifilter deforms only minimally.
Rubber or Teak
Both handles have a solid stainless steel core for weight and durability. On the Rubber handle, the core is covered with a thick sleeve of FKM rubber. The Teak handle is made of hollowed-out solid wood, sanded and treated with a German VOC-free oil. Functionally, both are the same.

Does the Unifilter fit your machine?
The Unifilter fits standard 58 mm machines with an exposed brew group, such as La Marzocco, Slayer, Synesso, Kees van der Westen, Rocket and machines with an E61 group. It also fits Victoria Arduino as well as the La Marzocco Micra and the new Mini, but according to Weber it locks in noticeably right of centre.
It does not fit Fellow Series 1, Decent, Flair 58 and similar machines with a thick or concealed group, nor Breville/Sage, Gaggia Classic Pro and other proprietary non-E61 groups. Who it is made for
For everyone with a compatible 58 mm machine who wants a portafilter without a removable basket and would like to reduce cleaning to rinsing and wiping. The dose is 18 to 22 g. If you work with a brew ratio, start at 1:2 and adjust to taste from there. Our opinion is one of many; there is no espresso police here.

How do I clean the Unifilter?
Rinse it with water and wipe it after each shot. Because there is no removable basket, no residue collects in hidden gaps. Weber does not mention any further regular care.
What dose is the Unifilter made for?
For 18 to 22 g. According to Weber, around 20 g for a medium roast is a good guideline. With or without a puck screen, the dose can be shifted up or down.

Tip from the roastery: After switching to the Unifilter, the shot may run differently than with your previous basket. We then adjust the grind size and stay with the 1:2 ratio.
