As you flip the lever, instead of the familiar hum of a vibration pump, it stays almost silent. The gear pump pushes the water evenly through the puck, the pressure builds calmly, and on the display both temperatures sit steady, locked in place. A machine that doesn't need to be loud to be taken seriously.
What defines the Tide
The Arkel Tide is a compact dual boiler with independent PID control for the brew and steam boiler. Its heart is a stainless steel gear pump – not a vibration pump – that builds pressure noticeably more evenly while running very quietly. Through the adjustable over-pressure valve and the flow control on the needle valve, the shot can be shaped by pressure and flow: real pressure and flow profiling, from a gentle pre-infusion to a tapering pressure at the end.
The group head is integrated directly into the boiler and heated constantly. This saturated design keeps the temperature stable throughout the entire shot – in our observation, a saturated group produces a somewhat more refined aroma profile than an E61 group, regardless of the heating system. That's our opinion, one of many.

The gear pump delivers pressure more evenly and runs noticeably quieter. This helps especially with pressure and flow profiling, because the pressure curve is calmer and more controlled.
Can I connect the Tide to a direct water line?
Yes. It runs on the 2-liter tank and can be connected directly to the water mains at any time – practical for a café-like workflow at home.
How long does the Tide take to heat up?
It's ready in around 8 minutes. For a stable temperature picture, it's worth running one or two blank shots afterward to warm up the portafilter and cup.
Can I see the Arkel Tide in person before buying?
Yes, in our showrooms in Bern and Zürich. Delivery takes 2 to 4 business days across Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Financing is available, and a private barista course is included with the purchase.
