Airscape 250 g – compact airtight coffee canister
Buy the Airscape 250 g in Switzerland: press the inner lid down onto the beans, the air escapes through the valve, fold the handle down – the canister is sealed.
The Airscape Classic in the 250 g size holds around 250 g of coffee beans, roughly one bag. It is the small, low version of the Classic, with a stainless steel body in many colours and as a glass version with a bamboo lid. It is developed by Planetary Design in Montana, USA. We are the official Swiss importer of Airscape.
How the Airscape works
Airless, not just airtight
An ordinary airtight canister traps the air above the beans. With the Airscape, the inner lid is pressed down onto the contents and the air above is pushed out. According to Planetary Design, oxygen is the main reason coffee loses aroma over time.
Patented inner lid with two-way valve
As you press it down, the valve lets the air escape. When the handle is folded down, the valve closes and no further air exchange takes place until the next time you open it. The inner lid is made of BPA-free polypropylene.
Protection from light and moisture
Besides oxygen, Planetary Design names moisture and light as the main things that affect coffee. The closed stainless steel body keeps both away from the beans.
The details in everyday use
Outer lid with rubber seal
The outer lid is smoke-tinted, made of UV-resistant acrylic and fitted with a rubber seal. It protects the inner lid and closes the canister at the top.
Sturdy stainless steel body
The body is made of food-service grade 18/8 stainless steel and is scratch-resistant. Depending on the version, the colour coating is a baked-on enamel or an acrylic finish.
Brushed stainless steel inside
Inside, the canister is made of brushed, food-safe stainless steel.
Stackable with non-slip base
The canisters can be stacked, and a rubber foot on the base keeps them from sliding on the counter or shelf.
Not just for coffee
Planetary Design also recommends the Airscape for tea, sugar, flour, spices and other dry staples. It is cleaned by hand.

Who the Airscape 250 g is made for
For anyone who wants to store a bag of coffee beans with as little air as possible once it is opened, or keep several roasts side by side. The Airscape Collection also carries the 500 g and kilo sizes as well as replacement inner and outer lids.
What stays fresh longest is what has been freshly roasted: our coffee beans from our own roastery in Zurich. Freshly ground, the aroma comes through best. For anyone who wants grinders that are affordable and precise: the Varia VS3 from our Varia Collection, or by hand the Comandante C40 and grinders from Timemore. If you want more room to play: the Varia VS6 or further models among our coffee grinders.
For anyone who wants scales that are compact and precise: the Normcore Collection. If you want an app and a flow-rate display: the Acaia Collection. Our advice tool narrows down which grinder and machine suit you. Our opinion is one of many.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Airscape canister keep coffee fresh?
The inner lid is pressed down onto the beans and pushes the air out through a two-way valve. With the handle folded down, the valve is closed. In addition, the stainless steel body protects against light and moisture.
How much fits in the Airscape 250 g?
Around 250 g of coffee beans. For around 500 g there is the taller Airscape 500 g, and for larger amounts the kilo size.
What is the difference between stainless steel and glass?
Both work with the patented Airscape inner lid; the glass version has its own inner lid made specifically for glass. The stainless steel version also protects the beans from light. The glass version, made of borosilicate glass with a bamboo lid, shows the contents.
Can the Airscape go in the dishwasher?
No. Planetary Design labels the Airscape Classic “Hand Wash”, meaning it is cleaned by hand.
Are there replacement lids?
Yes. You can find inner lids and outer lids for the Airscape Classic 250 g and 500 g in the Airscape Collection.
Can I see the canister before buying?
In our showrooms in Bern (Gerberngasse 44) and Zurich Oerlikon (Hagenholzstrasse 50b). Not every colour is on site at all times, so drop us a line beforehand at [email protected].
Tip from the roastery: For a full-bodied, chocolatey cup, there are Cozy Chocolate and Nutty Delight. For maximum body without acidity, Very Nutty; for a brighter, fruity profile, Wild Peach. Grind the beans just before brewing. That is our recommendation, one of many.
