The gear pump pushes the water smoothly through the puck, the pressure rises steadily, and both temperatures on the display are locked in. A machine that doesn't need to be loud to be serious.
The Arkel Tide is a compact dual boiler with independent PID control for both the brew and steam boilers. At its heart is a stainless steel gear pump – not a vibratory pump – which builds pressure noticeably more evenly and operates very quietly. The adjustable overpressure valve and flow control on the needle valve allow you to shape the shot by pressure and flow: true pressure and flow profiling, from gentle pre-infusion to decreasing pressure at the end.
The brew group is integrated directly into the boiler and is constantly heated. This saturated design maintains stable temperature throughout the entire shot – in our observation, a saturated group produces a slightly more refined flavor profile than an E61 group, regardless of the heating system. This is our opinion, one of many.

Nobody needs a machine at home that can compete with a café. Yet the Tide is exactly that – and that's the point. It sits compactly on the counter, works quietly, and puts you in control of every shot. This decision is an emotional one, not purely rational, and we respect it. Those who want it know why.
For anyone who wants to shape their espresso rather than just extract it – with pressure and flow profiles, stable temperature, and a pump that guides the shot calmly. And for anyone who wants café-quality at home without the machine taking up too much space. You can narrow down which machine suits you in our consultation tool.
The Tide pairs perfectly with original accessories from the Arkel Collection – such as portafilters and drip trays. For fresh grinding, a grinder: affordable and precise from the Varia Collection, or with Grind-by-Weight from the Weber Workshops Collection. For dose and yield, a scale – compact from the Normcore Collection or with an app from the Acaia Collection.
The gear pump delivers pressure more evenly and operates significantly quieter. This is especially helpful for pressure and flow profiling because the pressure curve is smoother and more controlled.
Yes. It runs on the 2-liter tank and can be connected directly to the water mains at any time – practical for a café-like workflow at home.
It's ready for operation in about 8 minutes. For a stable temperature profile, it's worth doing one or two blank shots afterward to warm up the portafilter and cup.

As a coffee roastery, we like how calmly the Tide conducts a shot – which makes profiles highly repeatable. For dialing in and calibration, we often use a full-bodied roast like Cozy Chocolate or Nutty Delight; those who play with flow profiles can discover exciting nuances with a fruitier Wild Peach. This is our recommendation, one of many.
